Rounds 2, 3, 4, 6, 10 and 12 could each be resonably argued for Canelo. But most of these were close rounds, not clear rounds. Many of the rounds Mayweather won he won more decisively but there's enough rounds that were tight and hard to score to have it close on the scorecard. I scored round 6 even and I didn't agree with Ross's 114-114 card, not for the score but because I didn't agree with the rounds she gave to Canelo. For me it was a clear 8-4, 7-5 win for Mayweather. Canelo didn't win enough rounds clearly to expect victory, but he contested enough rounds and kept it close enough to expect a close or controversial decision.
depends which judges you're talking about, but your defence seems to be regarding just one. the one with the ridiculous card. start a thread with a poll referencing that card and see how it goes.
A poll would just further reinforce that disconnect. We can all agree that Canelo Mayweather shouldn't have been scored a draw, or that Canelo GGG 1 shouldn't have been scored 118-110 Canelo. But to gauge how off those are you have to look at how many close rounds there were. Going to the other extreme is no better. If we're talking about 1 or 2 rounds that were scored incorrectly, that can take you from a draw to a close but clear win or from a close but clear win to a blowout. When it comes to Canelo Mayweather and Canelo GGG 1, these matches share many similarities in how the press interpreted rounds with a bias to the fighter who was expected to win which created an unwillingness to give Canelo any close rounds as the underdog.
i was referring to floyd-canelo only though. there simply is no defence for that horrendous card. focusing only on that card, there is no "disconnect" .
The disconnect is that in Mayweather vs Canelo, rounds 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, and 12 could each reasonably be scored for Canelo. The problem was those weren't the rounds that CJ Ross gave to Canelo.
i really didnt see that at all. floyd was working, but he was winning rounds pretty comfortably imo. floyd's jab could almost have won the fight on it's own, especially in the second half of the fight.
Well yes, the jab was a key factor to Mayweather winning rounds, as power punches were very comparable. Canelo wasn't elusiveness enough and he took too many hard jabs. But aside from jabs, Mayweather didn't land many big power punches on Canelo, he was too worried about getting countered to load up on many right hands. The rounds that Canelo did well in were the rounds where Canelo would avoid getting hit with stiff jabs, and he would land jabs of his own including jabs to the body and would end up landing an occasional flashy clean power punch which would catch the eye of the judges.
They would beat Canelo at 154 pounds and 160 pounds. They fought Marvelous Marvin for crying out loud.
Canelo beats the breaks out of Mayweather easliy, May got Canelo at the right time and weight, anyone with a brain understands Canelo is at his peak at 168 NOT 152
The point would be that Canelo is bigger and better now, knocking out light heavies and super-middles, what`s the tallest, biggest fighter Floyd could beat?
