I don't get this hate on Canelo. Alvarez fought Mayweather at junior middleweight, Golovkin at middleweight, Kovalev (who was past-it) at light heavyweight. He also unified the super-middleweight division by beating the various alphabet champs (Saunders, Plant, and Smith) and faced Bivol at light-heavyweight. What is the problem if he chooses a few easy fights? The Charlo twins are no bums. Sure, they are not fighting at their ideal weight classes, but neither was Alvarez when he fought Bivol.

Didn't Ali fight Evangelista, Coopman, Wepner and Dunn in his title defenses?

You don't get why people are hating on the SM champion refusing to fight the top contender and his mandatory in the division for 2 years, and fighting non super middleweights in 3 out of his last 4 fights?

What were the excuses before Benavidez?

Is this the first time a champion has not fought his mandatory for two years in boxing history? Remember how long it took for Dillian Whyte (who was never the top contender in his division) to earn a shot at the WBC title? And boxers keep moving up and down in weight classes, what is new? As I mentioned myself, Canelo moved up to challenge Bivol, nobody had a problem with Bivol fighting him. Of the three middleweights/junior middleweights Alvarez fought, each was an established champion in his own division. It is but natural for the boxer to move up and try to rule another division. And what is more natural than challenging the top dog? Hearns, Leonard and Duran all challenged Hagler, didn't they? Should we hold this against Hagler? There are champions who barely fight once a year and Canelo's workrate is higher, he usually takes two fights a year.

Benavidez is not some random mandatory. He is the most in demand fight for Canelo to make and likely the biggest fight in the sport. The charlos, mungia, ryder and 40 year old ggg are not comparable to Hearns and Leonard. They were great fighters and the biggest fights to make. Canelo is fighting cherry picks that nobody wants to see. So far it has been 3 in a row and soon to be 4. I am pretty sure a champ fighting 3 out of 4 opponents who have never even fought in the division and move up, is unprecedented in history. Stop acting dumb. This is not 1 fight, this will be 4 in a row.

I am not saying the Charlos are comparable to the fab 4, all I am trying to convey is that fighting challengers from lower divisions should not be held against the champion. I am not sure about the 'nobody wants to see' part. There are no official figures but estimates state that Alvarez-Golovkin III sold 1 million PPVs (this is disputed but the previous two fights did cross the 1m mark, so a third fight would make sense) while Alvarez-Charlo's figures stood at around 600k-700k. The only fight featuring Canelo and a genuine super-middleweight contender/champion which could match these figures was Canelo-Plant which by the way was fought to determine the undisputed champion. Canelo may be cherry picking his fights, but he is choosing the most lucrative cherries for sure.

3 out of 4 fights from lower divisions? Why should it not be held against a champion? Because its happened once before? You understand 3 out of 4 is more than 1 or 2?

Why would you want a champion to have, in your words, easy fights?

We pay not to see him win an easy fight, we pay to see a competitive fight where either man has a chance of victory.

Because all champions have had the luxury! Why single out poor Canelo?

Come on we all knew this was coming, from the moment he signed with PBC it was clear they were going to cash out the Charlo's and have been dangling the Benavidez fight as the 3rd fight in the deal to sell the Charlo mismatches and of course PBC love to marinate it's been there business model since Mayweather/Pacquiao onwards.

So nobody should be surprised or outraged as it's what's been on the cards from the start. But if Canelo doesn't fight Benavidez next for the 3rd fight then yeah he deserves a lot of heat and criticism. I think it will happen personally, all this BS of ducking etc is just what PBC want to sell the fight.

Apparently it will NOT be Jermall and Canelo may be leaving PBC? In which case Munguia and Crawford - both NON PBC fighters - would be the May and September opponents...as it stands now...

    Stop

He was trying to drain him to death

176 isn’t CW, it’s LHW. Clenelo wants to dare to be great? Fight at CW, like Jack did, 200 pounds.

I don't get why the undisputed champion needs to 'build up' towards fighting the unquestionable no.1 contender in his division. It's like Canelo's somehow regressed to being a carefully groomed and matched prospect!
