“They would prefer to go on September 12th, which is of course the weekend of the Mexican Independence Day,” Dan Rafael said via ESPN.com. “That’s the day Canelo would like to go, but that’s also the date when Floyd Mayweather going on his next fight in his last fight of his Showtime contract. The promoters and HBO have said that ‘if this is when Floyd is going, we’re not going to fight that battle. We’re doing with that. Let Floyd do what he wants to do what he wants to do, and we’ll go some other time.’ So they’re going to wait until the official announcement of the Mayweather fight, but they’re looking sometime in October, perhaps in early November.”

They just never learn. Cinco De Mayo/Mexican Independence Weekend belongs to The Money Man. :nod

Alvarez is learning that he is not as "big" as he thinks he is.

So, no chance that it's still for the MW belt then... the deadline was set in September, so even Canelo as an alternate wouldn't count anymore.

Wonder who GGG has to fight for the vacant belt? :think

Maybe, if he keeps winning and that's not so certain.

    Who gives a fuark.

Cotto-Canelo will be more exciting than Floyd's last 10 fights combined.

I'd watch Canelo/Cotto over a Mayweather fight. But that's just me I guess.

Canelo vs Cotto would draw more than Mayweather vs Khan/Brook/Thurman/Garcia so he could feasibly take the date since floyd has nobody left that can help him sell. Mayweather doesn't understand he isn't the most exciting fighter, phenomenally talented as he is and superb to watch from a technical point of view, he only sells double what he ought to due to acting like a wrestler persona ie ''Money'', Canelo and Cotto don't need that, they both have a bit of everything without acting like a charade.

HBO is either doing this out of respect for Floyd since he made them a lot of money over the years and especially this past May, or this may have been part of the negotiations for the pac/may fight..

It's more like HBO trying maximize profits, they could have Canelo fight on the same weekend but they lose nothing by moving it.
