    Not the usual Canelo/Golovkin thread.

Both fighters have claims that are backed up by one set of fans and refuted by the other, but I wanna see who has the strongest claim to being removed from their prime.

Canelo was younger, less experienced and hadn't perfected his front foot counter punching style when he faced Floyd.

Golovkin was older, slower and wasn't able to get his power shots off the way he usually can against Canelo.

Canelo arguably lost every round against Floyd.

    Golovkin arguably beat Canelo.

But who was furthest from their prime in that first loss?

Canelo. The improvements made since the Mayweather fight are ten fold. The scary thing is Canelo keeps getting better.

I don't know. Both were actually quite a bit far off from their respective primes. Canelo's stamina was terrible during his first loss because he was drained. His issues with workrate and gassing have gotten a lot better now that he's fighting in his natural weight class.

Golovkin's style had undergone a change. He was no longer a relentless pressure fighter of his youth, but rather a plodding boxer-pouncher.

I have no doubt in my mind that Golovkin is the better fighter than Canelo. A clearly over the hill Golovkin fought Canelo on even terms.

The 'improvements since Mayweather' line of thinking would disappear if he fought an 80% Floyd again.

Canelo is a thinker. A counter-puncher. That's not the style to beat Floyd.

What loss for GGG? I know Canelo got beat by Mayweather but I don't recall GGG losing, I must be out of the loop. But if we are talking about the GGG from Canelo 2 fight and Canelo from the Mayweather fight... I'd say Canelo for sure, he was 23 years old, weight drained and clearly not the same fighter with the same confidence as he has nowadays. While GGG losing a bit of hand and foot speed but was still brilliant

How can you have missed it? Do you even follow boxing?

Golovkin fought a rematch with Canelo and lost the fight.

you can wonder who was fighting little gigi when he was 23 years old. It will give you the answer. But you dont want to hear that answer, though.

Clenelo was roided to the gills against Golovkin.

I'm picking Canelo because it happened at a catchweight of 152, and he's unified in two divisions above 154, and picked up a belt at 175. If he fought Mayweather at 168 or 175 I don't think many boxing experts would be picking Mayweather.

Canelo was further, but he was getting better and better and had previously fought some good fighters. GGG, after getting ducked for years in his prime, was getting worse and worse by the time he fought Canelo and was obviously well past his best at that stage. Daniel Jacobs is a person I respect immensely due to his heroism against cancer. But he was stopped by Pirog and went the distance with GGG while giving him a pretty good fight. Anyone out there think Pirog beats prime GGG? Canelo was further from his prime, but he was fresher and not worn due to age as GGG was.

    i wouldn't be picking floyd at 160, nevermind 168 or 175.
    154 was his limit.
