im very impressed with him, i think if he beats lara (and most would favor him to) he is the best 154 fighter not named floyd mayweather
hes still young and has a lot to learn. boxing floyd was a dumb move by him and his team. from the 1st round, i said to myself, "this fight is over"
he needs to fight Lara considering he gets past Ishe Smith next Lara is pretty much the WBA 154 champ as I doubt Mayweather has any interest in fighting at 154 anymore To be honest out of everyone ranging from 140-154 the guy who has the best chance of beating Mayweather could very well be Erislandy Lara and Canelo doesnt seem to be too keen on taking this fight
Lara is pretty overrated but he'd beat Alvarez. Angulo looked like an ancient mummy that had just emerged from his tomb; he looked like a really bad caricature of himself. It's not going to happen, though, because Alvarez will be moving up to fight the weakest belt holder in Quillin.
I'm not going to claim he's better than he is or that he beats everyone, but the OP has a very good point, and I noticed it when he outboxed Trout. The kid is a master among Mexican boxers, and he can handle slick American boxers as well. What other current Mexican boxers can we say that about?
The performance against Trout is nothing really worth glorifying, either; this was his first genuine test against a legitimate world operator and opinion was split on the verdict.
Talented for sure. We definitely need to step back and remember how old the kid is. I don't think he is elite YET, but I think he will probably be there eventually. He is great though and I will tune in everytime he fights. But I don't really put much stock in "outboxing" Trout I thought Trout outboxed Canelo in the first 4 rounds. Then the scores came out and it dramatically changed the way Trout fought. I thought it was a close fight and really didn't have a problem with the decision in the end. I did have a problem with the open scoring and the after effects of those scores. I didn't expect Angulo to win, but he looked like he was on Xanax. I only saw him against Lara. I knew he was slow, but it was crazy how slow he looked in that fight. Canelo put on a great performance.
I don't think Lara beats either Alvarez or Mayweather for all the defensive skill people say Lara has he gets badly lumped up every fight, imo Lara offense is as basic as it gets and his defense is severely overrated Lara really just wins fights off of foot movement. I don't see Lara being able to runaway from Alvarez all fight without being caught and he doesn't have the fire power to really take it to Mayweather.
Beat me too it .Looked like he survived more against Trout than actually outboxed him and Angulo just came to collect a check .
