That is simply not true. Most people don’t want it because it’s a waste of time and almost everyone thinks that it’ll just be the same result, perhaps even more one sided than the first time. Everyone wants to see Bivol fight Beterbiev, let him face the bigger challenging fights. It’s like seeing a rematch between JMM and Mayweather, nobody would want to see it because it’ll be a repeat. Seeing Haney rematch Kambosos was a very pointless rematch that not everyone was too thrilled about because the results was foreseeable. The same thing applies with Canelo rematching Bivol. The fact is that Bivol is too good of a technician for Canelo and he won’t even flirt with the idea of dropping down in weight for Canelo because he’ll be at a disadvantage.
The fight would not be more one-sided. It will be(if it takes place) a lot more competitive than the first match.
No its not the same as Marquez fighting Mayweather. Marquez was never in the right with Mayweather and that was'nt the case with Canelo vs Bivol. Canelo was up 4 rounds to none after 4 rounds and was actually up on every judges cards after 9 rounds complete, so this is a much different scenario and matchup than Marquez against Mayweather. I can see where Canelo could work on some things to be able to give a better performance vs Bivol, thats not the case with Marquez vs Mayweather where Marquez is outgunned in every single physical aspect, plus you have Mayweather who's the ultimate defensive fighter thats not going to leave any window open for a fighter the skill pedigree of Marquez. On the flip side Bivol and his team are talking about KO this time and that can actually open the window that Canelo needs and an avenue for victory that a Mayweather would never grant.
This may turn out to be the case. Many dont look at a possible notion that Canelo may have underrated Bivol's skillset and thus did'nt work on the things in training camp to counteract Bivol's strenghths. When you're the top Dog in boxing, every opponent you face knows your strenghths, weaknesses and tendencies because they watch every one of your fights. Now that Canelo knows who he's dealing with, I would think he and his team devise a better gameplan to to counteract Bivol and be able to perform better than they did the second half of the fight. I think the rematch will be alot better and would expect Canelo to go from less to more, meaning he's not going to empty his tank the first half of the fight, which I think was partly the reason why he was so lethargic down the stretch of the fight. Bivol suprised him is what I'm getting at, Canelo wont be suprised in a rematch, he knows exactly what he's dealing with now and I'm sure knows he's going to have to put himself through the ringer and work like he's never had to before to get a victory. Canelo is as dedicated a fighter out there today as there is, which is why I would give him a chance against Bivol in a rematch.
He was up on all 4 rounds by dishonest judges who scored blocked punches. Almost everyone who has watched it can tell you that Canelo did NOT win all 4 of the first rounds. Bivol was fortunate that he wasn’t ripped off of a rightful decision win because the 7-5 scorecards were absolutely ridiculous. The JMM / Floyd comparison was just based on stylistic foil. Of course they’re not the same per se but it’s a matter of being a stylistic poison for Canelo. The moment Bivol started to up the tempo and let his punches go more freely Canelo simply had no answer for him. I find the idea that the only route for a rematch with Canelo by dropping down in weight is ridiculous. Why should Bivol give Canelo any ounce of an advantage when he could stay at his most comfortable weight? Theres also a chance that he’ll be unfairly ripped off by the judges since he was close to getting robbed of a win the first time. I don’t doubt that the rematch could potentially be more competitive but for me I think Bivol has Canelo figured out. Canelo could approach a different gameplan but stamina will always be an issue for him and Bivol will take advantage of that. Canelo and Bivol are better off going their own separate ways, no need for a rematch.
Competitive perhaps but still the same result. Bivol has dominated almost all of his opponents, including Canelo. The rematch wouldn’t be much different in my opinion. We’ve seen how skilled and versatile a fighter he is.
Maybe but my guess is this fight would be competitive enough that the scoring could go either way. If this fight is made i'll spend more time on explaining why.
I did'nt see the fight live, watched it maybe a week or so afterward knowing the result and the scores but not knowing that that judges had scored the first 4 rounds to Canelo. So I'm watching the fight with this notion that Bivol had dominated Canelo because that what I had heard from others who had watched it. Lo and behold I'm watching and scoring the fight and after 4 rounds I'm thinking because my scorecard read 4 rounds to none for Canelo, "what the hell, did they rob Canelo here?" I mean all Canelo had to do was win two more rounds out of 8 on my card and he secures at least a draw. So I'm watching it with that mindset, but those two rounds never came. Canelo looked more fatigued with each passing round. Great gameplan by Bivol and his team, and maybe not planning enough on Canelo and his team turned out to be their downfall, only a rematch can tell us that for sure. ......and Raiden, if you're so sure and confident that Bivol is simply a much better skilled fighter why are you so against even a catchweight for a rematch. If Bivol if that much better a catchweight is'nt going to make much difference. In fact if you believe Bivol is that Superior you of all people should welcome a catchweight so that maybe the fight is'nt so one sided as you believe a rematch with Canelo would be.
Not sure how anyone could realistically give Canelo the first 4 rounds unless you’re really biased. 2-2 is a more fair scoring but Bivol has a better case of being 3-1 quite honestly when you count his cleaner work and not just scoring blocked punches. What would be the purpose of having it at a catchweight other than to try and tip the scales to Canelo’s favor? Bivol is supposed to be the champion, he shouldn’t have to drain himself down for a rematch of a fighter he already beat. You’re only insisting that he should do so out of some hope that Canelo could have somewhat of a better chance. Maybe Canelo should do a catch weight so he can fight Charlo?
100% correct. Unless CA wants a fight at 168 in hopes to drain DB. But what's the point in that. CA wants the belts at 175. Even at 168, I would favor DB.
I think Bivol vs Beterbiev can fight before september. And since Beterbiev is fighing in January, april or may would be perfect for undisputed. If Bivol wins that, he would demand moving down to become two weight division undisputed champion.
Totally agree and I just don't see how you could see it any other way. I'm tired of every Saturday night there is a fight that no sooner is the fight over that guys (instead of crediting the winner) are always more about "So-and-so would CRUSH X fighter!". It's like, damn man, let's give fighters credit instead of always tearing them down. I don't expect guys to always fight the toughest fights, and if Bivol were to take an easier (but not total garbage) fight next I wouldn't fault him for it. It just seems like the fans posting on sites more often rip into a guy after a win than praise them. Some fights deserve criticism, like if Spence fights Thurman next, that is a joke and so is Crawford's next fight. (What happened to "I'll go up to 154 to fight Charlo if no Spence fight"? ) Now I know Canelo is taking a soft touch next but if he backs down from Bivol, then yeah, rip him a new one. Fans just get too emotional and once they hate a guy all the lame nicknames come out and guys circle-jerk over anything to discredit X fighter.
Exactly this. Why aren't there 50 threads every day about this and calling one guy a ducker or saying one guy is scared? It's because neither guy has a big fanbase talking about them and fueling some kind of hate squad. According to sites like this Spence and Crawford are ducking each other but these guys aren't? It's just silly.
