Canelo's only out is by proving that VADA is incompetent or the results were tempered with, which may require several bribes and other illegal deeds. Of course admitting of eating clen'd up food destroyed that defense in advance.

I'm starting to get my hopes up!

On the first point, there's no doubt that a violation has been established. The temporary suspension and hearing scheduled is evidence of that. As far as whether a positive test results in a suspension or fine, Section 39 appears to give the commission the discretion to reduce or eliminate the culpability based on mitigating circumstances (without limitation).

    Sec. 39

    1. The Commission may, in its discretion and based on the full body of evidence presented to the Commission, reduce or eliminate a period of ineligibility set forth in sections 26 to 32, inclusive, of this regulation for an anti-doping violation committed by an unarmed combatant, a person who is licensed, approved, registered or sanctioned by the Commission or any other person associated with unarmed combat in this State if the Commission finds one or more mitigating circumstances pursuant to this section.

    2. Mitigating circumstances exist when the conditions, events or facts accompanying an anti-doping violation reduce or eliminate the culpability of the person who committed the antidoping violation. Mitigating circumstances include, without limitation . . .

Unknowingly eating contaminated meat would qualify as a mitigating circumstance to reduce or eliminate culpability and accordingly the Commission may in its discretion reduce or eliminate a period of ineligibility due to the mitigating circumstances.

The whole Canelo GGG Drama is annoying, and the remedy to that annoyance of course is to get a decisive conclusion on May 5th. If the fight is cancelled, then it will only prolong the canelo ggg drama indefinitely, which would plague boxing and the MW division.

I think they have to suspend Canelo if they don't get some proof that it was contaminated meat.

That's generally in line with past rulings and reinforces the fact that at the end of the day, pro athletes are responsible for what gets into their bodies.

If the commission believes that there is a high chance of meat contamination, they can reduce the length of the suspension.

Not really, in past cases, as far as I can tell, there has not been proof of meat contamination needed in order to clear fighters. (Morales, Vargas, Nery, etc.) According to WADA, the anti-doping community views it as unreasonable to put the burden of proof on the athlete, i.e. to prove that the meat, which he or she had consumed, was contaminated.

So if they suspend Canelo and cancel the fight on the basis of not getting proof it was contaminated meat, they'd really be holding Canelo to a higher / different standard than they've held past fighters to whom they've cleared without such proof.

I don't know man, because Canelo also has to be cautious when eating meat in Mexico. Unless the meat provider or the restaurant he went to lied to him, there is a very small chance the NSAC views his consumption of the meat as a mitigating circumstance. By the way, CBS Sports just reported that there are full refunds available for the rematch. Source: https://www.cbssports.com/boxing/ne...canelo-alvarez-vs-ggg-fight-in-real-jeopardy/
Now, that doesn't mean the match doesn't happen for sure, but the likelihood of it not happening is increasing more and more.
