Are you confusing Canelo with GGG, because if my memory serves me correct;

Canelo fought Trout when his critics thought he would not, Canelo fought Lara when his critics thought he would not, Canelo fought GGG when his critics thought he would not.
GGG did not fight Ward when his fans thought he would, GGG did not fight Lara when he was called out, GGG did not fight BJ Saunders when his fans thought that he would, and he did not fight Derevyanchenko when he should have.

 

It would be if it was true. But nobody believes Oscar nobody trusts Oscar.

 

I suspect it will be some poor featherweight dragged up to a catchweight of 159 and no same day weigh in.

 

Afraid of the counter? I don’t think anyone WANTS to get hit, but he got countered and nobody would argue he didn’t get hurt.

I think he let the magnitude of the event make him more gun shy than anything. He knew he could fight safe and smart and limit the risk to get the W.

Against big punchers he rightfully gets more technical. Stevens was the only one I don’t recall him fighting cautious but I think he actually wanted to hurt Stevens.

I don’t think Canelo’s power was all that intimidating (Jacobs bigger puncher), but it’s surely debatable as he glaringly neglected the body ALL fight long, even when Canelo was not in position to muster any dangerous counter. And banging the body would have slowed down counters later too.

It was a strange decision and we never heard Abel ask him to go to the body, as if that was the game plan all along. I still don’t get it myself because I think attacking the body probably would’ve gotten Canelo out of there even if he had to eat a couple counters along the way.

GGG can stay balanced and keep his defense while throwing a power shot. He doesn’t have to sacrifice to land a damaging blow. Many fighters have gone on record to say all of his punches can feel like power punches.


But, I think one fighter earned the win that night. He wasn’t given it for whatever reason.
