What fight could Canelo take to really solidify himself and prove the MANY haters wrong? David Benavidez? Charlo? Beterbiev? Bivol?
Who you got? Not gonna lie I haven't watched much 175 so bivol and beterbiev are slight mysteries to me.
If he would beat plant at 168, bivol and beterbiev at 175 with no rehydration limit then hes a great fighter.
I wanna see him fight Benavidez before going to 175. It will feel like a bit of a duck if he skips over, IMO, the most dangerous fight at 168.
Is that how you would have voted? Personally Canelo is one of my favorites, I mainly wanted to see what his detractors (of which there are MANY) felt. People seem to want to call all of his opponents weak "paper champs" or cherry picks. But 2 GGG wars(regardless of how you scored em) and 2 undefeated champs and a third champ way out of his natural weight class is pretty impressive to me... I don't understand how some people can't give him props for fighting the top guys in his weight class(es)
yeah I would have voted for • already has respect As I have stated many times. He fights 3-4 times a year & he is Fighting more champion belt holders then anybody else whilst doing so. Even this boards most hailed & prized fighters are not doing that.
We don’t necessarily hate who he fights. We hate the multiple clenbuterol drug testing failures. We hate the history of bribed judging going back six or seven fights. We hate the catchweights, rehydration clauses and short notice camps. We hate the history of waiting until a fighter ages or catches some debilitating illness like Covid before Canelo challenges them. We hate the fact that Canelo isn’t so much a boxer as he is a protected brand. It robs the sport of its last shred of honesty. The squared circle is supposed to be the chamber of truth. Two men enter and leave a part of themselves in that ring forever and to have these A-side stacked deck tactics cheapens that. Unless you get a clean knock out, at the end of the night the protected Brand gets his hand raised no matter what.
Hence my question! What does the most hated man have to do to redeem himself to the haters. I don't like getting into stacked decks drug tests That ARE debatable and rehydration clauses. He's a hell of a fighter that I personally enjoy watching! That being said I understand why people don't like him. But I'm always curious who people think he should be fighting! You have said yourself it's not his opponents that cause the dislike. But I do feel it's a reason lots of people give, but can't actually say who he should be fighting instead.
Bivol is absolutely the biggest challenge 175 and below. On top of that there's nothing about Bivol haters can say to discredit the win.
Again, It's not about fighters that he fighting, It's about WHEN he is fighting them. Sneaky moves is not making anobody great.
When they are not over 36 years old and still waiting for a fighter to get old When they are choosing a fighter whos last fight was not so good. When they are going to fight someone in short notice When they are giving fighters only two or three weeks to prepare for the fight
