Vernon was the man. I was a fan of his and even the faded version who fought Mora the second time would have beaten anybody competing now at 154 most likely. I was trying to get my point across that Alvarez just doesn't fight live bodies.
I know man you were just to make a joke, i really though he was one of the true great men of boxing gone way to soon. R.I.P. Vernon
Maybe I was being a little distasteful, but the point still stands I think GBP will look to protect him for a while. They'll probably bypass Lara, Kirkland, Trout, etc. and take on some lesser risk fighters who still have something of a name in the division. Then they'll make some big money on him down the road with Floyd Mayweather. At least that's how I see it unfolding. I'd love nothing more for Saul to prove me wrong, take on the best, and beat them convincingly, but I have no confidence in his ability. He just looks like a decent fighter. Nothing more, really.
Maybe in time we could become the fighter you think he will but he's gonna have to step up in competion
I remember after Forrest beat Mora, he jokingly told Oscar in the post fight presser to get him a fight with Marquez (who just KO'd Casa) telling him it was the same thing as De La Hoya-Pacquiao
I wish Oscar would've fought Forrest at 154 instead of Pac at 147 to be honest. Pac would've made his march up to 147 eventually. The Hatton fight would have been the one to take place instead and he'd still have beaten Cotto afterwards. But De La Hoya at a healthy weight fighting Forrest (with both being well past their best) could have been a good fight.
Man i wished those fights would have happened, oscar knew Verno would tap that ass and wanted none of it lol
Yup. Oscar looked like crap too against Forbes - like he lost his power and any real sharpness that he used to have. As long as Vernon didn't drain himself 10 pounds at the last minute like he did when he lost to Mora, he'd soundly win that fight.
It would take the 97-98 Oscar to have a legit chance against Forrest. If they fought around 02, Forrest would beaten Oscar via rather clear UD.
