Canelo still doesn't want the fight at middleweight, but at 155.

I suspect Canelo's next fight (Cinco de Mayo weekend) will be against Heiland at 155. Heiland is currently ranked at #1 in the WBC rankings, while GGG is Interim Champion ... whatever that is.

Canelo doesn't have the bottle to fight a natural Middleweight at the 160 limit, much less Golovkin.

In the past, Golovkin has stated he could comfortably make 154. So with that in mind, where does Canelo go if GGG calls his bluff and makes the 155 Caneloweight limit?

If I were Gennady Golovkin, Abel Sanchez and Tom Loeffler, I would be psychologically buoyed by the fact that Canelo clearly doesn't want to fight Golovkin at 160. I personally think Canelo would sooner vacate the WBC Middlewight title than face Golovkin in the ring.

There is an ofcourse the argument to be had about them not being world class but do you think these boxers are bums?

 

I think GGG will come down, maybe 156/157. GGG wants a big fight, Canelo is one. GGG could make that weight, Hopkins did for DLH. I don't agree with it as Canelo would outweigh GGG on fight night at 160 - so if the fight aint made will reflect badly on him IMO

 

I don't know what's worse Canelo's demands or agenda driven fans trying to justify them.

Unification fights at cw clearly shouldn't be allowed. That said most have too much respect for the sport to demand them so it's not been much of an issue.

I'm not sure I believe OP though. Canelo doesn't have history of being a *****. But rumours of Liam Smith don't bode well.

 

@walter....I don't literally think any prizefighter is a bum......and no I certainly don't consider those guys bums...I just don't think any of them are that good....I think the best grade I could give to any of them is maybe a b(murray)....

 

Better:

GGG agrees to fight Canelo at Caneloweight 155lb, at weigh in Canelo hit 154,75lb, Golovkin does 160lb.
Canelo has the choice then ... either he cancels the fight and get stripped by his WBC belt (because he doesn't fight his mandatory challenger who made the middleweight limit) or he takes the challenge and fights a real middleweight.

The WBC doesn't care if you weight in at 155lb or 160lb.
It's their middleweight title ... so you have to be at 160 or below...


Sooner or later the WBC should call a purse bid. Golovkin will agree to the terms of the WBC (f.e. ... 160lb max). If Canelo still refuse to fight a middleweight then, he should lose his belt.
