But what if Sergei's team (or anyone else) outbids GBP with $6 million? Or even $10 million? Canelo can't fight on another platform and the fight is obviously worth a lot more than that.

It seems that there was some agreement between GBP and the IBF which complicates things further, but there is a good reason GBP have no interest in purse bids.

People that’s angry at Derevyanchenko and the IBF only has the WBC to blame for the IBF enforcing their mandatory a year later.. Had the WBC forced Canelo to fight Charlo(Whether you felt he had a chance or not) it wouldn’t have been the IBFs turn.. But because the technically stripped him and created a honorary belt the IBF has no choice but to follow their own rules..

People forget the IBF have to be on point with stuff like to continue as an organization after the feds fined them and almost had them shutdown due to corruption in the late 90s.. That’s why out of all the organizations they show the least favoritism towards certain promotions
