Boxrec uses a formula. It's completely objective based on who you beat and how good they were.

http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/BoxRec_Ratings_Description

Compare this to Ring magazine who just chooses who they feel is best.

Look at what Mayweather has done to boxing...
Canelo is now using the same quotes now...
Dude, you cannot own 160 pounds belt and ask your opponent to go at 155, that's ridiculous. And the WBC won't even strip him. They should since it would help bringing down that ducking vicious circle.

If Khan beats Canelo and raises the middleweight belt and calls himself a middleweight champion I'm going to need oxygen to get off the floor from laughter.

I don't blame Canelo. The boxing commisions are all equally corrupt and insane.

Belts have never meant less in boxing. Their worth & value goes down every year.

It's not completely objective. If you look up controversial decisions ie robberies sometimes the moderators let the judges decision stand and sometimes they give the points to the other guy. That's not objective. It's playing favorites. Boxrec's formula is also stupid because it treats every loss and victory as though they were under ideal conditions. Cotto got as many points for beating a crippled 2014 version of Martinez who could barely stand as he would have gotten in 2010-2012 when the guy was a monster with two good legs. I don't think it even makes a distinction between a bull**** ref stoppage versus knocking a guy unconscious.

There's something really flawed in their system that lets guys get ranked in the top ten of their division without ever fighting someone in the top fifty. People know this so they game the system, exploit it's loopholes and rocket to the top fighting bums.

That formula is systematic, which means that it's systematically unfair. If a fighter was overrated it perpetuates that overrated rating and passes it on to whoever beats him and the next guy that beats that guy forever. Same thing happens when the system underrates a guy. A guy could be a monster like Roman Gonzalez or Juan Francisco Estrada and all of their victories could be underrated so it's almost impossible for them to rise in the rankings no matter who they beat.

Boxrec's stupid formula doesn't even make a distinction between a gift decision and a dominant beat down.

Look at the distribution of weight classes
HW 3
CW 0
LHW 2
SMW 0
MW 2
JMW 3
WW 7
JWW 2
LW 0
SFW 0
FW 0
SBW 1
BW 0
SFLW 0
FLW 0
LFLW 0
MMW 0

Obviously their metrics are skewed to favor the higher weight classes. CW has talented guys in it but they haven't had a unification bout in six or seven years now so that's why there aren't any of them there. But there is only one guy, at the very bottom of the top twenty who is below the junior welterweight division. That should be a joke considering all the talent south of junior welterweight: Roman Gonzalez, Juan Francisco Estrada, Guillermo Rigondeaux, Vasyl Lomachenko, Naoya Inoue, Takashi Uchiyama, Leo Santa Cruz, Lee Selby, Gary Russell Jr, Shinsuke Yamanaka, Omar Narvaez, Kazuto Ioka, and Donnie Nietes. Welterweight is grossly overrated. It doesn't have 7 of the top 20 boxers in the sport at the moment.

Good point however it is also true to say, that from BW down there are far fewer men out there fighting at those weights. So you do not need to be as good to be top dog, as there are less fighters in general fighting there. There is also the fact that most people are not interested in anything below BW- the men are too small...and psychologically you are not going to get as excited if its guys at WW or MW going at it...who are more the average size of an in shape man.
