Serious question for G fans, do you guys think that a 155 catch weight makes it favorable for Canelo to then win?

LOL yet how could he be confident at something he’s never done before? He’s NEVER in his life fought at 160. Let alone fight at a new weight vs the best fighter at that weight is a huge challenge.

Canelo is capable of beating GGG but he has to grow into 160 naturally and shouldn’t be forced to do anything before he is ready to. If he is more comfortable fighting at 154-lb the WBC should respect that and allow him to win back his titles there while also holding the 160-lb title. He should have a year to decide what to do with that title.

The goal should be to acquire as many World Titles as possible before fighting GGG. Due to his #1 Jr Middleweight ranking the best way to do that is at Jr Middleweight. He is the mandatory World Title Challenger in that weight class.

It's bull****. So sick of this catchweight junk. There's already so many divisions as it is, now it's "bigger name creates his own division" in an attempt to drain the opponent, gain some sort of mental edge by "winning" the negotiations, or to avoid someone.

And people often excuse it by saying "Mayweather/Pacquiao/Leonard/Cotto/etc...did it". It was annoying then and it's annoying now.

That's a total unknown. GGG has never fought that light as an adult.

Yes but do have on evidence on he feels about it as he was willing to go to 154 for Floyd. And we can't just pass it off as "a paycheck" he and everyone knows that G would get maybe Maidana money for that fight ..G actually believed he would beat the best at that weight.

Cotto wasn’t a super welterweight when he beat Martinez though.

Agreed. Tell that to Pac Floyd and Cotto who all have used catchweights to drain opponents. Canelo, on the other hand, has never needed a catchweight to drain his opponent.

The rush for Canelo to fight GGG at 160 is like baiting Canelo to do what Pac Floyd and Cotto did and start demanding catchweights. Telling him if you don’t fight GGG next we will strip your title from you. My idea is for them to wait until Canelo is ready to move up to 160. If he’s not ready yet, he should be allowed to hold the title next year. It’s a huge accomplishment for Canelo to be MW champ. That’s a very prestigious title and it would be wrong for Canelo to be stripped of that title. He earned that title.

I disagree. I don’t think Canelo would need a catchweight if he wasn’t being pressured into making a decision within 15 days to fight GGG. Canelo should fight whoever he wants to fight next. Why not fight the WBO champ at 154-lb for the WBO title and the vacant titles? With each fight building towards a SuperFight at 160.

Hahahahha GGG is an awesome ko artist boxer/puncher but he has not fought anyone even close to the opposition canelo has at 24 years old.

I don't think canelo is ready for 160 especially to take on GGG in his first fight at that weight. At 155 I give canelo the advantage as it would slightly balance the scales in canelos favor. If GGG can beat canelo at 155 that would be very impressive.

I would like to see GGG vs canelo at 155 if canelo wins I would like to see a rematch 1_year later at 160.

IMHO canelo gets ktfo at 160 and would be 60-40 at 155.

Canelo and GGG weigh similar on fight night (between 170-175). If Canelo fought GGG at 160 he would enter the ring as pretty much the same size as GGG and Canelo would be stronger and fresher as he wouldn't have to drain down to 154.

Canelo is a MW who, due to his age and genetics, can boil down to LMW. That helps him have a size advantage over LMW opponents. However, this and the fact that GGG has fought at MW for years, does not change the fact that GGG and Canelo are basically the same size.

If he's not ready for the MW division, he shouldn't have fought for the lineal belt.

By taking the Cotto fight, he's put himself in a position where he's obligated to fight other MW's.

If it's too soon, he should have done everything possible at JMW before.

If he wants the glory of winning the MW title, he has to make the commitments that go with it.

Why should he get another year to defend the belt? That would be a disgrace. And it was a disgrace when it happened to Floyd.

Finally, how can he not be ready for the MW division, when he weighs in as a LHW?
