Canelo is a bigger draw then either of them were at 26, and he didn't need a victory over DLH to do it. He's also, clearly a bigger draw than Pac, who is still fighting.
If Canelo beats GGG he will get close to Floyd territory, but to actually get to Floyd's level they would need to find solid opponents for him who would be draws on their own. Unlike Floyd he doesn't have his own Pacquiao. GGG is the closest to it and he's nowhere near being the draw Pacquiao was. If Canelo beats GGG he will probably just sell 800k+ PPVs against whoever he will fight but will probably never come over 2 millions unless some new star around that weight emerges. Also, Joshua is now the face of boxing no matter what Canelo does.
Yep, we were saying that $15 million + some ppv upside was a perfectly good deal and I was confident it would be accepted, which it was.
I predict quite a bit more than 700k buys. Still, now that you mention it $65 million sounds quite a lot to me, I have no idea how they make their balance work.
I agree with most of your post. Canelo does not have the good fortune that FLoyd and Pac had of fighting in a time with plenty of "big name" opponents to choose from. I disagree about Joshua being the face of boxing. Heavyweights will always have the edge in popularity over all other divisions but he's still not there yet.
Really, dude? Common opponents... Pacquiao-Mayweather > Mayweather-Canelo Pacquiao-Cotto > Canelo-Cotto Pacquiao-Mosley > Canelo-Mosley (FREE) Last PPV... Pacquiao-Vargas (300K) Canelo-Khan (460K) Canelo had a full promotion, controversy (glass-jawed welter going up), popular opponent in Khan, HBO backing, and was contested on a Mexican holiday. Pacquiao had almost zero promotion, wasn't on HBO, and didn't ride a Mexican holiday.
Canelo vs GGG isn't going to do more than Joshua vs Klitschko, I will be impressed if it breaks 1mill buys. Neither are as big draws as their respective promoters have you to believe.
Sorry, last PPVs were Vargas and Smith. Pacquiao-Vargas (300K) Canelo-Smith (250K w/ Mexican holiday and HBO backing)
Oh but it was on PPV, it was the Co main to Mayweather-Cotto, which you had to pay for to see it live! Meaning it wasn't free after all.
Okay, well, I don't think Canelo-Mosley does better than Pacquiao-Mosley because Pacquiao-Cotto did better than Canelo-Cotto.
Joshua's ppv cost $18 lol If canelo/GG does half that number it still makes more money that josh/klitch
Everything on my post is a fact. What part of "Canelo is a bigger draw then either of them were at 26" did you not understand. Pac was about 30 when he hit the DLH lotto.
It actually cost 19.99 pounds which converted to U.S. currency is $24 dollars. Even then, Canelo's will likely be between 74.99-99.99. I wonder how much the tickets were selling for. My guess between $20-$500
