Canelo on points. Stevenson boxing skills were quite average.

If Adonis Stevenson started boxing in his teens rather than start at 27 he would kill Clenelo, no doubt about it. His left hand was dynamite.

 

7 years ago this would have been quite laughable.

Now? I dunno.

2013 Superpimp that obliterated Dawson, Cloud and Bellew would KO Canelo cold. Does Canelo have the power to keep him off of him. I doubt it.

 

Canelo has been suspectible to left hands from day one.

Stevenson could lose every round and then find a home for his left hand and potentially knock the freckles off Canelo.

 

Canelo has had exactly one fight at 175, against the shadow of a former great fighter that he both weight restricted and sprung a short camp on. Canelo has to do more at the weight before I start picking him over guys like Adonis.

 

Canelo would walk down Stevenson and put a slow beating on him over the course of the fight. Stevenson knocking out defenseless journeymen has no bearing on how he competes against Canelo. Canelo is just the much more skilled operator.

 

I was sold on stevenson too. My fault.

But the truth is that he was overrated as ****.

 

When you mean "guys like Adonis", you mean fighters whose resume is fonfara, bellew and dawson, right?

Adonis "could have been", but never "was". And you will find tons of posts written by me defending stevenson long ago. But the truth is that one. The truth is that he "could have been" but never "was". And the truth is that he looked way better than what he actually is. I look back, at his whole career, and I dont see any reason to think that he's anything even close to especial.

edit: And no, the "eye test" is not enough at the end of your career. (so crawford, take good note of this, btw, and freaking take that last step that you need)

edit 2: And I spent years in this forum yelling that stevenson would destroy kovalev. I would not say that today, not even after 10 beers. I look back and it seems pretty obvious to me that I was wrong, that prime for prime kovalev would have destroyed stevenson. And, oh man, God knows that I cant stand kovalev, what an *******!

 

Fair criticism. But Canelo "never was" at 175 either.
