Eubank should have been at middleweight then. Nobody forced him in that tournament. But i suppose h can’t make 160 because he must wear gloves to weigh in the gobshite.
Can only see this going one way Canelo body shot KO. Smith has only had 4 weeks to prepare..... People saying Smith has been training through lockdown ect but it won't make a difference, Smith won't have been hardcore training camp style until the fight got confirmed so with the travel ect will have had about 3 weeks. Smith is clearly no gym rat and will have spent what time he did have tanking weight. Which is why Canelo didn't have a rehydration clause as he knew Smith wouldn't have been able to make the weight good at such short notice. I just hope Smith sticks it straight on from round 1 and goes all in and manages to chin Canelo. Stranger things have happened.
Many thought Kovalev was doing enough to be beating him. The scorecards suggest otherwise but they always will with Canelo. Smith is taller, with a longer reach and much faster hands than that Kovalev. Canelo was staying in that by countering with wild left hooks early on. I fancy him to not do that or for Smith to counter that counter with a fast hard shot of his own. Canelo will have to think a lot more in this fight than against Kovalev. If Canelo falls short with anything which is highly likely against a much taller man there’s a serious possibility of him getting hurt and Smith can finish when he has people hurt. That Groves finish started from a counter left hook from quite a sharp Groves right hand. Canelo will have better footwork to get in and out and has a smaller target than Groves but I’m not one of these who thought Groves was finished. No way will he rush Smith and be willing to take shots like Ryder did just to land one so his concentration will have to be next level and that could drain him. His size is a huge factor like you say but it doesn’t mean he’s a bully. It’s a huge and lucky advantage but why would someone say “no I won’t use that”. He has very good fundamentals, great bodywork and is a great counter puncher. It’s not like he is clueless and gets by from using his size. I don’t feel Smith would be so good at Light heavyweight as his advantages would be less.
Exactly, if he doesn’t like fighting bigger framed men who can put more weight on after the weigh in, then don’t do it. If Groves was 25 pounds less than him he’d have still boxed his head off.
That’s the big thing to think about isn’t it. Smith’s untested chin even the fights he struggles in like Rebrasse, Skoglund etc aren’t good punchers and Groves was boxing on the back foot and was just starting to turn it up when that ended.
25 lbs hahahaha where have you got that nonsense from . So George groves was 193 pounds on fight night ?
Haven't got any reason to doubt his chin but I do think the weight cut could now start to impact on his performances. Weight cut normally makes your own shots less effective and reduces your ability to take and hold a shot. What I will say is, he has looked ragged against Skoglund and Ryder, Rebrasse maybe also. Certainly Skoglund and Ryder and he didn't look comfortable but he came through the bits of adversity he's had, he was hurt by Ryder in the 11th. The issue is thats adversity against fighters you wouldn't class as top level SMWs or world champions. Were yet to see him fight a proper world class SMW, the only exception is Groves and we all know he was not the fighter he once was (another who I think the weight cut impacted his career later on). Even before this fight there was talk of him fighting Jacobs (career MW), there's even been talk of Golovkin! Not once have I ever heard him or his team seriously mention any decent LHWs. Even Ryder started at MW but to be fair he has campaigned at SMW for several fights now and needed to move up. When Smith has fought people like Ryder, Skoglund who you can class as SMWs, he has struggled which is a concern. I personally think he's had brilliant timing, the WBSS was ridiculously weak path of resistance for him until the final. SMW at the moment has to be one of the weakest divisions. Since then he hasn't even fought another world champion and one of his defences was against a small career middleweight. I think he could chin-check Canelo for sure though. I won't rave over him until I see he can beat some decent in prime LHW fighters, that division is pretty deep.
