Hmm I'm seeing a Matchroom obsession with numbers permeating this thread....who gives a toss, as long as it's on. Let the promoters and networks worry about the numbers of this, numbers for that. And McGregor is easily as well known as AJ here, especially when you take into account the Irish man has been inactive for year. I see way more casuals and girls posting Mcgregor related "memes" about the usual quasi-motivational crap on FB than I do about AJ. In the run up to the Mayweather "fight", almost everyone was posting something related to it, whether they were into combat sports or not, let alone boxing.
I give a toss and it’s nothing to do with Matchroom v BT. As fans it’s 3 PPV’s in 3 weeks. This is why I was championing a DAZN type model a few months back. If you could get a subscription channel showing the WBSS and then at least one of the two big fights in within a few weeks it would be great value for money.
90% of the stuff people were posting about McGregor in the run up to that was people taking the **** about how he had no chance. McGregor may be as well known but AJ is streets ahead when it comes to selling power. McGregor couldn't sell out Wembley IMO.
I guarantee you if McGregor decided to fight a British boxer he could easily fill Wembley. The irony being of course this applies to fighting a boxer as opposed to a UFC fighter.
The GGG - Alvarez fight was included in the B/N subscription. £9.99 was the charge for the fight alone, if you didn't have one. I found it a totally absorbing fight. With the knowledge we now have of the Mexican's training additive, I'm looking forward to see how he fares without it next month. At least his knee will be conveniently okay, thanks to the six month "ban".
