On boxing alone? Pfft. Good luck with that.

If these Canelo-Trout figures are true, then the gap between Showtime and HBO -- in regards to drawing power -- is bigger than I thought. Looks like outside of Mayweather, GBP won't be hitting any decent numbers.

I really don't mind what channel the fight is on, but I do prefer HBO. I like Lederman scoring and things like that.

It matters because in this day and age numbers make matchup.

IIRC, the CBS showing is for their CBS Sports Network, a channel most folks don't even have or even have available on their carrier network.

i doubt that hbo finds it funny that gbp is breaking viewing records for showtime. they will most certainly bring tens of thousands of new subscribers that wouldnt have otherwise bought the service. it is legal to subscribe to both, you know.

Yeah. I initially thought HBO had shot themselves in the foot, but now Showtime is doing the same by a lack of creative promotion. Floyd's CBS deal has been virtually useless up to now.

A smaller percentage of HBO subscribers watched Bradley than Showtime subscribers watched Alvarez

The problem is that Mayweather fights on PPV, so you don't need a Showtime subscription. If you don't already own Showtime for Homeland/Dexter/boxing, then why would you own it now? Bad calculation on their part. The upside is they're summer schedule is going to be crazy with lots of good fights.

    Numbers

The disproportionate number of subscribers makes the difference if (hypothetically) Golden Boy still did business with HBO and this fight were on HBO it would have been twice that the showtime numbers (At least)

The Mayweather contract was brilliant for Mayweather and stupid for Showtime. No 36 year-old fighter is worth that much guaranteed money, especially when they're fighting the Robert Guerreros of the world.

His face is aging, so you can't sell "Pretty Boy" looks anymore. His story is played out. He isn't a great speaker and rarely offers anything besides "hard work and dedication".

He isn't white, he isn't Mexican, he isn't Puerto Rican... he's black, but the Pacquiao-like ethnic angle can't really be used with him.

The only way to salvage anything is to stack the cards with promising young fighters with elite talent (i.e. Alvarez) and hope that one of these fresh-faced fighters can captivate an audience.

Right now, it's looking like one of the worst deals in sports.
