Im very surprised about this because when its all said and done Bradley isnt a draw and has never been. I don't for a second believe that since fighting Pacquiao he has become a draw either.......I assumed that Canelo was hugely popular and that would have translated well the number of people watching him

So I would have to assume that either Showtime cannot do numbers like HBO can or Canelo is not as popular as I thought....

I suppose if we wait and see what kind of numbers Floyd does then we can see if the problem is Sho or Canelo.

Tons of factors go into this...

Bradley vs. Provodnikov was to end a dry spell of no or shitty fights in February.

Alvarez vs. Trout came one week after an even bigger fight, and one where a lot of people weren't entertained.

The deciding factor though is the difference in subscriptions between HBO and Sho.

Plus, it's nicer outside and more things happen in late April than in mid-March. That's got to count for a few thousand.

Also, it was 4/20 so a lot of people celebrate that as a holiday and won't make sure they get back in front of their TV by a certain time.

That's completely true,I don't see what more does floyd bring at this stage of his career.I would have let hbo keep him, this might make or break showtime too they invested a lot of money.

Idk of someone said it or not but this is a huge deal. Yes, us loyal fans of boxing will watch it, but thats not what the sport needs. When you have a rising star like canelo, you need all the exposure possible. So the fact that only 1.1mil were able to catch the fight does not bode well for the sport as a whole, especially with the two main stars reaching the end of their careers.

You make many valid points. Just goes to show Floyd's business team is more astute than they are given credit for. How did a defensive fighter become THE biggest attraction in boxing? It's all in the marketing. And they just pulled a big one over SHO.

    Exactly!

Now that there is real championship boxing on Showtime, I expect their subscriptions to increase.

GBP and Showtime are really committing suicide with this deal...

Yeah if they keep doing this for a few years, Showtime's subscribers will eventually increase a bit and the ratings will even out.... BUT!! Do you really believe Al Haymon is going to let his fighters being used for that?????? Broner fighting Mallignaggi with Junior fighting on HBO on the same date.. Junior will do close to 2 million. While Broner might be lucky to hit the 700 k mark.. Al Haymon's fighters are going to become niche fighters in the coming years compared to the fighters fighting on HBO...

Arreola might be Haymon's fighter with the highest ratings in the coming year...

Believe me, Haymon is going to take all his fighters from GBP and they will all be back on HBO within a matter of 12 months...

Sho and GBP are going to suffer dramatically and eventually Espinoza will be sacked by Showtime and Sho's deal with GBP is off the table and they will show fighters from other promoters again.. If they aren't bankrupt.. And then GBP will have to go back to HBO hat in hand.. and HBO will have the best negotiations position EVER...

HBO has the best coverage, it's the home of boxing. Showtime's coverage simply is not as good, from the announcer to the commentary to the build-up. It's a no contest.

I use to have only hbo than I got showtime and they have some really good shows that made my subscription worth it.

If hbo didn't have game of thrones I might have taken it off my cable

:rofl Nice way to spin it in favor of Showtime. I really don't know what Showtime is thinking with this exclusivity. Boxing will not bring them any new subscribers.
