According to a legendary Matchmaker Rick Glaser the fight barely did over 200k buys. That is absolutely terrible. It is not a good sign for boxing. Now this fight was intended to be a tune-up and so these kind of fights have never generated big pay-per-view sales. That is why if you want to be a cash cow you have to fight top fights where people do not know the result of the fight.
It was hardly promoted in the U.S. It was huge in Mexico. I'm not sure why they neglected the American market though.
Most of the money the DAZN has lost has been from football and other sports. Although they did lose money in boxing it is nothing compared to their losses in football.
Depends on what your definition of "well" is. Canelo's last two fights have done over 1/2 mill+(each). Canelo/Ryder was the first fight to do under 500K in almost 7 years.
It doesn't surprise me. Clenelo has been atypical of past great Mexican fighters. He's just lucky he's in an era where the competition has been subpar.
Not surprised given the lack of promotion. It was really just meant to be for the Mexican fans. The promoters didn’t seem all that interested in selling it in the USA, then again it was a tough sell.
