Even if you could make a pick on accomplishments, Joe accomplished more. :deal:

What's Canelo got to match a 20 defence title reign? What's Canelo got to match wins over Hopkins, Kessler and Eubank?

    Not enough imo.

Anyways, I like Joe to out-work Nelo, he's gonna keep coming and throwing lots, turning angles and letting combinations go. Canelo doesn't actually have many advantages here. He isn't bigger. He isn't quicker. He has the better chin, but neither has the power to KO one another, but worst of all; Calzaghe can throw 1000 punches over 12, Canelo gasses throwing 600...

Canelo would never be able to outpoint Calzaghe or knock him out. Calzaghe would have won a clear decision, but it would probably be a draw on the scorecards...

Calzaghe would box his ears off, complete and utter schooling.

Calzaghe workrate beats Canelo's low output. Joe would break guys with his constant pressure, boxers with good cardio. Not Canelo's best attribute

Calzaghe should win as his attributes match up quite well with Canelo. Calzaghe is a mobile southpaw, volume puncher. He has far better movement and quicker hands. Canelo's best attribute is his combination and countering ability, but he needs to be set. Calzaghe will never stop moving or punching, he'll never give Canelo the ability to pick his shots at his leisure. he'll rain shots on Canelo and never stop.

Calzaghe UD Canelo. (although it would probably be a split decision victory)

Calzaghe wouldn't have the balls to take this fight. Not until Canelo is late 30's and past it.

In fairness there’s only 3 years between Calzaghe and Jones, and Calzaghe was also at the end of his fighting career. Literally. Hopkins is more understandable. There’s nearly 10 years between them.

This. Kovalev and GGG were both 36. Floyd was also 36 and he gave Canelo a boxing lesson. Roy Jones and Hopkins were old when Calzaghe beat them, but it pretty much evens out, since Calzaghe himself was also old at 36 and at the end of his career.

Not to mention that the best man who either of them beat was a prime Kessler. A guy who'd beat Canelo himself, let alone Jacobs.

You guys will tell me if you think this is wrong but I think Canelo team stays away from movers.

Canelo has fast hands, good defense, power and is durable. But I think he is at his best when he can counter a guy in front of him.

End thread in unrestrained, side splitting laughter.......Calzaghe would slap the toxicity out of Clenelo on the way to a MD loss no doubt.

GGG was 35 for the first Canelo match and Canelo gave him a boxing lesson, he clowned him on the ropes in rounds 4 and 5 when it was said if you did that vs GGG you would get knocked out.

Comparing Calzaghe at 36 to GGG at 36 is apples to oranges. Calzaghe had a lot more mileage at that age than GGG did. GGG was a lot closer to his prime when he fought Canelo than when Calzaghe fought RJJ. Calzaghe was clearly at the end of his road, whereas GGG was not. GGG went on to beat a young hungry lion in his prime like Derevyanchenko.

Had Calzaghe fought on after he fought RJJ and fought a young hungry Lion in his prime like a Chad Dawson he would have a very difficult time. Calzaghe retired at 36 because he was done, GGG on the other hand was not done. Big difference. Not every fighter is the same at 36. Fighters age differently. Some fighters are done by that age, some like Hopkins are just getting started.

Mayweather at 36 was an absolute beast. The version of Mayweather who fought Canelo was arguably the best version of Floyd ever. (physically ripped + all that experience) After Floyd beat Canelo he started eating late night McDonalds and got out of shape, when he fought Maidana the next year he was lethargic compared to what he was vs Canelo which is why Mayweather Maidana was so close.

GGG at 35/36 was more closer to prime than Calzaghe was when he fought RJJ. GGG at that age was also way more technically skilled than Calzaghe was at that age. He had better defense than Calzaghe. Remember Calzaghe was knocked down by both Hopkins and RJJ who were in their 40s. Hopkins isn't even a puncher. Calzaghe towards the end of his career especially had nowhere near the punch resistance of mid-30s GGG. GGG has an iron chin, Calzaghe was put down by a faded RJJ and was in serious trouble seeing stars in that 1st round.

If 40-something RJJ and 40-something Hopkins could put Calzaghe down imagine what a prime Canelo would do. Calzaghe could end up like Amir Khan. Calzaghe has never fought anyone with the skills and speed of Canelo. Mid-30s Calzaghe was not very technical, he just threw a lot of punches and tried to out volume you. I could see him winning some rounds on Canelo with his punch volume but I could also see several flash knockdowns and possibly a body shot KO with Calzaghe down on the canvas clutching his body in pain being counted out like Beefy Smith.

Some of these comments are so far off track I honestly don't know what some of you would do without me coming on here and breaking it down. Mid 30s Calzaghe had nowhere near the level of skill and technique as mid 30s GGG or mid 30s Floyd. All he did was throw a lot of punches. Both GGG and Mayweather at that age had much better blocking and in the case of Floyd (before he got out of shape after fighting Canelo) he still had upper body quickness to evade shots which he did vs Canelo. Calzaghe wouldn't be able to evade Canelo's shots with quick reflexes like Floyd did. Nor does he have the chin of a GGG to absorb shots and not go down.

If I were a betting man, I would bet the house on prime Calzaghe beating any version of Canelo up to this point. Canelo has beaten no one to indicate he would have beaten a prime Calzaghe. Someone on these boards said Calzaghe would have waited until Canelo grew old to fight him. I find that rather interesting considering Canelo's history of caneloweight and his challenging his 2 best future victims when one was clearly past his best (GGG after being avoided by several of the top middleweights for almost a decade) and a completely shot to **** Kovalev. The more I think about it, the possibility of an 11 or 12 round exhaustion stoppage of Canelo is possible due to his lack of workrate compared to Calzaghe's.
