Good stuff as usual Rums! You cover pretty much all the angles. It's all depend if Chavez Jr shows up on the day or not. I am expecting lots of thudding body blows aargh...!!
I think the winner of Cuadras-Estrada will be the best current Mexican fighter. And lol at Andy Lee tagging Chavez. He really is a punch bag.
Yes. Perfect video. Thanks, Rummy- This helps point out that Chavez- at his best- was most effective as a punching bag. This leads to my opinion of the fight: Chavez MUST hurt Canelo early to have any chance at all. If Canelo is allowed to box as he usually does, then he will have Chavez wearing down and in trouble by round 4 or 5 with the fight ending around 7 or 8. However, If Chavez can really hurt Canelo early, then all of that changes and it heads toward what would likely be a hard-fought decision with Canelo outscoring Chavez and Chavez occasionally landing the more telling shots. I believe that's the best we can hope for. Because- In the end I'm not foolish enough to believe that caring about and working hard for one fight, after years of waste, can be enough for Chavez to succeed here. Canelo has not shared this ethic- he has been working all along. I also do not believe that there are any politics, short of a KO, that would allow Canelo to lose this fight. If the outcome seems really debatable, then I would bet the scoring is something along the lines of 9-3 for GBP. This "A-Side" apple cart is already loaded up for future deliveries and junior is just not going to spoil it. He will deserve our respect if he rejuvenates his abilities and his career with a great effort. I sincerely hope we see that.
That knockdown in the twelfth against Martinez had nothing to do with Chavez. It's Martinez' awkward style. The man has more slip and falls than an old folks home with icy steps. He's just always off balance. What happened there was Martinez fell and hurt his knee, which is what eventually ended his career. He got up unhurt and traded stationary with Chavez to the final bell. Wasn't ever close to being knocked out and Chavez gets far too much credit for that. Good job noting that Chavez has Nacho Beristain training him. Although, he is known as much for training Ricardo Lopez, Rafael Marquez, Daniel Zaragoza, Humberto Gonzalez, Oscar De La Hoya, Jorge Arce, and Abner Mares as for training Juan Manuel Marquez. He's trained more than twenty champions and is one of the greatest trainers of all time. He's one of the few trainers who actually improve good fighters and map out winning strategies for them. Good as he is, Marquez doesn't beat Pacquiao without Nacho. Maybe, it's his skill as a trainer, a tactician, or a cornerman but he does something others don't do. I've only seen it in a few trainers. Like four of the five guys who beat Ali were all trained by Eddie Futch. Angelo Dundee had a bit of that, and Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko were practically unbeatable with Manny Steward in their corner. Nacho might be Chavez' ace in the hole and be the key to his winning this fight or at least making it competitive.
The first half of 2017 has so many good matches One guy who likes to pressure and gets hit alot vs someone who likes to throw combinations and is known to KO people. Going to be intresting to see how Canelo deals with the size of Chavez.
Chavez looks to be taking this very seriously and in good shape, but I still think this is gonna go like Pacquaio/Margarito. Superiority of the smaller fighter will be too much for the bigger one.
I just can't see Cheesburger Jr pulling this off or even making it past the 9th round. Fonfara IMO showed us how fragil Jr is when faced when a tough challenge "these days". Why do I say "these days" because as Rummy pointed out his BEST days & fights are like almost FIVE years ago bro. His main focus is on cutting weight and that is never good and the only positive thing going for him is his size which must be changed and will have an adverse impact on him come fight night. I would love to FKN be wrong but I think Canelo crushes him around the 8th round. I would love to be wrong and even welcome foolish trolling from ISAL but I still say this is set up to look like a great fight but end easily with Big Red looking like a monster and ole fish-nets will be smiling like a loose skirt on prom night and calling out big names again and then just play games when it's time for negotiations
