What do you think? I see some similarities with both rivalries. You have the younger, fresher prime counterpuncher against the older but more experienced, crafty boxer-puncher who has a good jab. Their 2 fights were really close that could have gone either way, although the first was a draw (that could have been a clear win) while the other was won by MD (which a case could have been made by the loser). Toney/Canelo had the clean counter-punches and defense while McCallum/GGG had the jab and workrate.

I think if a third fight were to happen I think Canelo would beat GGG much more convincingly, much like Toney/McCallum 3.

Well Golovkin isn't getting any younger and Canelo is closing the gap with each fight he's unofficially lost.

GGG beat Canelo by a larger margin than Toney beat McCallum in their rematch, Mike would have had a much better chance at beating Canelo at light middle than beating GGG at middle.

Man, what rivalry. GGG is just another one. He isnt even the best fighter canelo has fought. I can even see the rivalry. Mayorga mosley is rivalry. Maweather pacquiao is rivalry. Cotto margarito, maybe? kovalev ward, is rivalry. But canelo gg? meeeeehhhh, if you say so.... Imho gg is "just another one" for canelo, I bet canelo would change his victory over gg for a victory over mayweather any day of his life. If he does so.... there's no rivalry, just too very good fighters fighting.

    Just my opinion, though.

What the hell are you talking about? I saw 2 equally matched fighters that fought 2 closely fought matches. Does that not warrant as a ‘rivalry’? What exactly do you mean by “just another one”? Please explain.

I should probably sit down and watch the Toney/McCallum trilogy just to see a masterclass on infighting and bodysnatching. I've heard that McCallum was robbed in one of them. Maybe, I'll score it after I get around to scoring Marquez vs Barrera. But that's for another day. I've still got 14 fights from the 60s and 70s in my youtube queue and I need to catch up on some fights I missed from this year.

They are really not the same. Toney landed very clean hard damaging shots on Mc Callum. He had Mc Callum badly hurt in the 12th. Canelo was not able to do that.
