It's not his fault he can't land big fights,he's got one now in maclkin & will likely take on sturm,Pirog,Serg in the fall. He's not in chavez jr/canelo shoes were he they basically get handed a belt & take yrs to finally defend it against the best.
macklin is not a "big fight" i dont buy for one minute that a fighter with GGG's 'bute-style' reputation hasn't been able to score one big fight to this day canelo's in pole position to fight sergio if he wants
What does that mean? If you mean GGG is overhyped like Bute was, then remember that GGG has only in fact appeared on most boxing fans' radar some MONTHS ago!
what does it matter when a fighter appeared on the radar if they haven't backed it up with solid wins against top opposition yet? i'm not saying GGG is a hype job, he looks dynamite, but a lot of punchers do and get hyped before anyone else on here before they have fought the big players
GGG is not a puncher, though. If you had followed his career closely you would know this. He is a natural boxer-puncher, a hell of a tactician, a very skilled boxer, WITH A GREAT PUNCH. Since he joined the professional ranks, he's changed his style to sit on his punches more and go for impressive stoppage wins, rather than dominate by boxing alone. GGG has got top world class boxing skills. This is why he is going all the way.:good
well i haven't followed his career so you know more than i do all i'm saying is KO'ing the b-graders does not a champion make
GGG used to be a very bad risk/reward and could never get any of the good fights. Now, because people are rating him more, he is a better risk/reward. A lot of people had to work very hard to hype him so that he could become a better r/r, so that he could get the better fights. Don't hate on that! Hopefully after the MM fight, he will get a shot at a very good opponent and become mainstream.
i'd really like to know why he couldn't get a crack in europe though how can a fighter with network backing and a big reputation over here now, be overlooked before he even arrived in the US?
In Europe, unless you want to plod along the WBO route, it ain't happening. Unless you have a top promoter (e.g. FW), unless you're very marketable (Klitschko), unless you have it all (you're British, good promoter, marketable). GGG is a guy from Kazakhstan. He didn't have a top promoter. He didn't speak decent German. He had no fanbase. The very best he could have achieved in Europe would have been a career like Sturm's or Erdei's. This is why Bute, whom you mentioned before, decided not to have a WBO career in Germany. I'm glad GGG decided to risk it on the other side of the pond too. There's others too: Korobov, etc. but they're not on the radar yet. Even someone like Khan, who had it all, decided to jump into the big pond over in the USA. Brave move, but it's the only way to really make it. The alternative it to have a career like that of Calzaghe's, if you are really, really lucky.
i lived in europe for a while frank war+en (if thats who you meant) is nothing but a leech on euro fighters. he only breeds paper titlists who never cross the pond...then the fighters who stay with him wonder why the big boys dont fight them just watch cleverly try and justify his status as 'world champion' while he's with him khan, like hatton, left ****** and made their defining fights happen calzaghe will never be remembered internationally, and rightly so i was only in europe for a few years, but i never heard a sniff from GGG i didnt know GGG was from khazakstan or anything beyond that i'm guessing he was poorly managed when he was young?
yep I give Canelo a lot of slack given his age, but I still find it unsavory how he was gifted a belt as well as advertised as a champion at such a young age. I hope/think Canelo has more potential than Julio Caesar Chavez Jr., though. I also believe he will pace himself in developing as well as better develop. Trout was a great step up in class. Triple G is a monster, but I am not sure how much credit he would get for beating a boxer who is 3 months shy of turning 23. I say that even though they are the same size. Then again, if it could happen, I would say why not since it would give him a lot of spotlight and shine, especially with any Mexican contingents. Likewise, for those who say GGG has not fought anyone, GGG would be Canelo's best win by far; and despite the similarity in real size, the "stepping up and taking the bigger champion's crown" angle is there for the taking. Perhaps it will happen down the line, but hopefully sooner than later lest the aging GGG get too old and succumb to the youth of Canelo as opposed to a display of superior boxing.
