Hagler wouldn't leave it to the judges. Hagler RTD11 Alvarez The supremely disciplined Marvelous One starts out on his toes, being respectful, but landing that wicked jab steady. Stopping to mix it up or reverse lead foot occasionally to keep the redhead guessing, but maintaining a fast pace. At some point (8th round?) Alvarez starts to tire and the predator starts to come out in Hagler who steadily picks up the pace. Discipline. By round 10 or 11 Alvarez is taking a cruel beating and his corner stops it not too long after.
Hagler's a little overrated. Great win vs Hearns but his resume besides that isn't anything special at all. The best middle ever loses to an inactive Leonard post retina issues? Hagler probably would have had the same issues Canelo had with movers. Wouldn't surprise me if Floyd had schooled him.
Hagler would beat the holy hell out of Canelo and most of you have absolutely no idea what you are even talking about. First of all like it or not Canelo LOST the first fight with GGG but the cash cow that Canelo is was given a DRAW. And GGG was past his best and Canelo still really couldn't do anything with him. What power are you speaking about? He never came close to stopping or even hurting GGG even when GGG was pushing what FORTY? Did not stop Jacobs. Did not stop Mungia who literally is a punching bag. Did not stop Chavez. Did not stop Smith. So what power are we speaking about?? Hagler can also hit from BOTH sides something Canelo has never had to deal with. So stop with the Canelo has this tremendous power because he sure does not. Duran? Canelo is not even close to that level no matter how much you pretend.
Canelo arguably lost 2 out of 3 fights with Golovkin. No argument with the Hagler wins. Both Duran and Hearns are ATG's. Golovkin not ranked anywhere those 2. But Golovkin was a fantastic fighter. So, I understand your logic. I disagree, but understand.
I love Hagler, but all this “Hagler stops Canelo” stuff is a little crazy… Think what you will about Canelo, he has great defense and an iron chin… I struggle to see why anyone is picking him to be stopped after going 36 rounds with GGG…. Hagler UD, with work rate, conditioning, and feet being the main difference maker.. Canelo has his moments and lands some nice counters in the process, possibly the best shots of the fight are his.
He officially won 2, a verdict that I agree with. You can find plenty of people that think Duran won (BS) Not at middleweight. MW Duran was a fat old man with not much of a motivation left and Hearns was also mediocre at 160 lbs. GGG both h2h and record-wise is better than Duran and Hearns as a middleweight.
No motivation? Duran had 37 fights after the Hagler fight, got a belt by defeating Iran Barkley. Duran's post Hagler fight total is 7 shy of Golovkin's entire career of 44. Further seperating them on the ATG list. And besides, the question isn't was Golovkin better than Duran(no), it's is Canelo better than Hagler(no).
Duran's middleweight career (aside from fighting Hagler) consists of losing to Robbie Sims, beating Barkley and then beating on journeymen before he aged even more and started losing to no-name NPCs. Golovkin IS better than Duran at middleweight, and Canelo has a better resume than Hagler from his multiple weight class success alone, AND I'd favour him over Hagler over a 12 rounder.
Point being, even an out of prime Duran, still fought 37 times after Hagler and won a belt. Let that sink in. That's how good he was. Even running on empty, he was good enough to become a champ again. As far as moving up goes, sure, there is a lot of merit to that. But fighting no hopers to get belts while in his prime? Not a good look. Also, Canelo wouldn't have the success at 168 he did during RJJ and Calzaghe's time. Plus, he still needs to get in the ring with Benavidez. Until he does that, you should hush up and not try to discredit real warriors of the ring. So, when the thought of bad mouthing greats like Duran and Hagler pop up in that hard head of yours, stop and think SHHHHhhhhhhh. Got it?
