Canelo vs Jacobs had 1.2 million stream viewers online

That’s actually great. Considering some free cards are doing less than that! Dazn has got to be Happy with canelo!!!

 

I think, considering it's a standalone platform, that's pretty good. It's also $20 now too, is it not? (not that the money really matters, boxing is not DAZN's ultimate goal, it's just the best market to build a base in)

That's not good at all. Shows boxing isn't attracting new fans, even when you only have to pay $20 to watch on DAZN. It's the same numbers he was pulling in on PPV.

 

It would be more if all the old people didn't see online streaming as the devils work.

 

As long as they hide behind the "viewers worldwide" numbers, the US ones are really weak, most probably! Yes, this fight has obviously done better than any of DAZN's boxing fights before (as it should, because it was Canelo vs. Jacobs) but it doesn't mean that the future of DAZN is looking bright...

 

It's not too bad, considering some people signed up to DANZ will of purchased due to the coverage of sports other than boxing. 1.2mil viewers is OK for it's first major boxing event.

The number it self it actually decent this fight was never going to be as big as Canelo/Golovkin, 600K buys in the US is not bad at all. Boxing fans are clearly warming to this new platform which is a good sign for DAZN and the lower price is perhaps drawing in more buys. It's still very early on, DAZN still not even a year old, it will take time for them to build a subscription base.

In terms of revenue it clearly made less than if it was on PPV, but that's to be expected when you're charging a fraction of the price. But you have to remember where DAZN will eventually make it's money is on repeat subscriptions, how many of those 600K were new subscribers and how many of them will keep paying for DAZN every month. That's the figure that really decides if each fight is a success or not. Though right now I expect every Canelo fight to lose money for DAZN, that's the high price they are paying to secure Canelo on their platform, losses are expected at this stage.

It's a low number, certainly considering the boxers purses.
Like the PBC (particularly early on), they'll have to cope with tremendous losses. Let's see how they deal with it.
