Makes sense. It could be a factor saving Khan.

for me, the only questions it will answer is, what will khan blame for getting put in a coma, and how much credit will canelo give himself for such a soft touch.

People won't care, they have short memories. One mismatch, and then if he fights GGG soon enough, no one will care much about the Khan mismatch. Except for people on boxing forums when some other guy fights an overmatched opponent, and they will say "Well remember when Canelo did it? What can't my boyfriend do it? Leave him alone!....blah blah blah"

I don't know, it might just mean he cuts less weight, but the problem is that he will be facing a bigger opponent than he's used to facing.

It won't hold up well at all. He's had chin issues at every weight. A mix of his chin and his poor defense.

I've had my questions about Canelo's power since the Mosley fight. He hit Mosley with all kinds of bombs and didn't seem to discourage Shane or make him go into any kind of shell. Mosley has a history of getting cautious or discouraged when he's getting hit really hard, or getting caught with consistency. Yet Mosley at 40 years old was getting hit with everything in the kitchen sink and kept coming. It was a great effort by Shane, but made me wonder about Canelo's power when smaller guys and guys not known for power were able to make Shane way more weary and cautious than Alvarez did.

Overall I'm guessing that Alvarez has decent pop, and certainly hard enough to hurt Khan. And Khan is no defensive whiz, Alvarez will get plenty of opportunities to hurt Khan. Certainly not a "there was my chance, he was so open" type of thing. Khan will be open frequently to hit.

Canelo should be able to handle it fine. Lots of fighters were able to handle it and get Khan's timing down. Khan isn't the most imaginative fighter in there.

In addition to just being sloppy all-around and not good defensively, he's likely to get caught with Canelo counters even if he isn't being extremely sloppy. Canelo is a sharp counterpuncher, it's bound to happen.

Khan's only advantages are speed, workrate, and stamina. A high workrate can get you in trouble when you have a poor chin, leaky defense, and the other guy is good at countering. And Khan doesn't make the most of his foot speed because his actual footwork isn't good.

Canelo is bigger, more skilled, more accurate, younger (less mileage and punishment taken), more responsible defensively, hits harder, takes a better shot.

It's a mismatch. If Khan actually makes it competitive for more than 2 rounds then he'll exceed my expectations.

Good post- and actually addresses the comments made by Alex.

IMO- We would have to see something out of Khan that we've never seen before- and that Canelo doesn't expect- for this to go more than 3-4 rounds.

But I do not see Khan coming up with surprises.

(Khan MUST think, though, that he has some type of advantage to even consider the match. What would that be?)
