    Canelo is in trouble. :shocked::smile:
Anyway, this fight won't be easy for either of them. Anyone thinking that "Kovalev is just cashing out" is in for a surprise.

Remember Clenela sparred with Slava Shabranskyy for the JCC Jr. fight, Shabranskyy is the fighter B-Hop drafted in for sparring when he faced Kovalev because they said he was the closest facsimile to Kovalev out there at the time.

    Shabranskyy on sparring Clenela

He said he was surprised at how hard he hit

''We did like six rounds, but for four minutes [in each round]. He's punching like a heavyweight, he looks good"

Clenela says he usually weighs 178-180 on fight night which is exactly the amount I've been saying for ages that he must weigh since he bulked up on his Mexican beef diet. He was coming in at 172-174 down at 154 six years ago for goodness sake and he's obviously bulked up since then, specifically for the GGG fights where he packed on a lot of muscle.

Damn! The size disparity is even bigger than I thought it would be.

Like I said in my thread, Canelo is ****ed with a capital and lowercase F.:deal:

The joy in Kovalev and Mcgirk's, and the fear in Bernard Hopkins eyes, tells you all you need to know.

I cant help it guys... I dont care about the selecting Kova because hes old narrative. Obviously I believe theres truth in that, but really... having it at Kovas weight, Canelos very very first fight at the weight (its not really uncommon for fighters to take easier fights to adjust to new weights), and the huge size disparity here... all on top of, yes... Kovas past it, but based on his last two performances, hes not completely shot. He's still a world level fighter, that looks almost twice the size of Canelo, and he's still one of the bigger punchers in the sport.

**** it. Canelo won me over here. I gained a ton of respect for him (not that I didnt already have any) but idk... this is just such a bizarre move for a superstar to make, in my opinion.

Seeing them face to face... props to Canelo. He is taking a fairly big risk here.

So Canelo usually weighs 178-180 on fight night

Kovalev obviously has the bigger frame of the pair of them (albeit Clenelo is much more thick-set) and a reach advantage, but in terms of actual ring weights he was under 180 for the rematch against Alvarez and a only couple of pounds more than that for Yarde. In this interview from today he says he never feels good when he rehydrates a lot of weight so he's going to come in light for this one as well and I suspect he's going to continue doing so for future fights too, assuming he doesn't retire that is.

IF this is a REAL fight then Canelo has 0 chance to win however we know that Kovalev will just take the cashing-in retirement money from Oscar plus 3 judges paid off so this is just a FARCE.

My heart in this one is with Kova. BUT we know everything and everyone will be behind Canelo. The other thing that bothers me is, if Kovalev loses he has 2 more fights on DAZN. If he wins, he goes back to ESPN. So if he wants a lucrative rematch with Canelo, he has to lose...

Regardless of result ( i fear for Canelo, Kovalev is light years above Fielding, best jab in bussiness),
this only shows that the man with biggest balls in boxing is Canelo, bar none.

I agree, Canelo is taking risks and it's something I appreciate. No matter what I think of him outside the ring, he is one of my favorite fighter inside the ring.

That being said, it's still a calculated risk. Kovalev has been knocked out, has a known weakness to the body, struggles with inside fighting, his stamina his not the greatest and out of the 4 champions at LHW he is the one Canelo has the more chances to beat. But Canelo is also the face of boxing right now, he has the biggest contracts, he is THE draw and you can believe the judging in Vegas won't be in Kovalev's favor that night, no matter what happens inside the ring. IF Canelo loses, he can claim LHW was a step too far for him, Kovalev was the bigger man, that he dared and he has nothing to be ashamed (which is 100% true), he won't lose any of his belts and can just go back and have a rematch against GGG who will be 2 years older than the last time he fought him.

Not trying to knock on the guy, just assessing the situation from my point of view. Either way I'm happy for Kovalev, I hope he's got a big purse he deserves it after the 2 Ward fights...
