Ive watched this fight very closely 3x times .

The Majority of Canelo's offense did not land while Lara was frustrating him and setting him up for 1,2 s .

Canelo was just not effective at all .

Im pretty sure Canelo fans probably hate watching that fight and they probably stop watching that fight right after Lara gets cut and say to themselves " Okay that's enough , Lara got cut , that's good enough for me , Canelo edged him "

Im always going to be brutally honest whether Its hurts me to admit the truth or not .

The truth is Canelo lost that fight clearly . 116/112 Lara .

No one including Canelo can say all Lara did was run when he was the fighter that landed more punches .

Close fight. I think I had Lara winning 115-113. Cotto Canelo was close just Canelo is a bigger guy landing the heavier shots.

I can't remember by scorecard and I'm not sitting through a Lara fight again, but at the time I thought Canelo won it by a small margin.

If Lara had been more intent with punishing Canelo for missing (like Mayweather did), rather than just making him miss, I might have seen things different.

you could legitimately say ishe smith lara fight was closer than canelo vs lara watching it, that's how ineffective canelo was, smith lost nearly every round!

When I watched this fight, I scored it 117-111 for Lara. Even given that I was rooting for Canelo, I found it very hard to find any rounds for him. His body punches were partially blocked and didn't have any effect on Lara, and I only remember one clean uppercut to the head.

It's true that Lara should have been more active, but he was setting traps all night and landing clean accurate punches. Moreover, he dictated the pace and was the general in the ring. He promised to take Canelo to school, and, to my opinion, he kept his word - Canelo looked very awkwardly, slow on his feet, easy to hit, unable to cut off the right effectively.

I don't know, many people say that this was a close fight, some believe that Canelo won.. perhaps, I should watch it one more time and this would change my opinion.. if only it weren't so boring.

I know the consensus at the time was that Lara just scraped out a win, but nobody was mad because it was close and because of how he stunk out the joint. If you revived a thread from the time, I think that's what it would show.

I've personally watched it 2/3 times and get the same score every time 7-5 Canelo, it was a close fight and the overall result was a Split Decision not a UD which IMO was the right call.
A few things I look at Lara landed a grand total of 9 more punches than Alvarez, Lara got outlanded in power shots and did really nothing more than move and throw occasional jabs. Another fact even pro fighters who scored the fight for Lara ring side said he RAN during that fight.
Saying that from what I recall I thought Lara won the 1st two rds of clean boxing, I gave Alvarez rd 3 felt he did better work, I thought they spilt the next two rds 4/5 but can't recall I think I gave Alvarez rds 4 and thought he rallied well, then Lara comeback strong in rd 5 with some good boxing. Either way through 5 I had Lara up 3-2 rds 6-9 I thought Alvarez swept personally Lara during the middle rds become overly unaggressive and most of his shots were soft jabs, while Alvarez railed him to the body, I felt the bodywork put in was more effective and telling than Lara's jabbing and the few times Alvarez did look and land upstairs he cut and hurt Lara. Going into the Championship rds 10-12 I had Alvarez up 6-3. I thought Lara finished strong in rds 10 & 12, but Canelo took rd 11 to me which basically sealed it.
Afterwards I left with a few thoughts Lara wasn't active enough needed more offense, he wasn't even that good defensively I mean yeah you made him miss but if 75% of the fight your so far across the ring you can't even land punches thats not really the same. I like "boxers" but even I felt like Lara ran in that fight for comparison Mayweather landed over 200+ shots on Canelo at like 40+ percent, Lara landed right around 100 at like 25-30% Lara landed like 30 power punched the whole fight Mayweather 100/150+.

There is a difference between movement and AVADING punches and RUNNING from punches, from the looks of it the first real landed hard shot from Alvarez convinced Lara to stay as far as possible if he threw more he might have got dropped. I think if Lara gets a big win a rematch would be good just because the fight was close but no interest in it right now

wrong. over 40 of the 80 bodyshots landed for canelo on review of the fight at showtime were found to have not landed at all! blocked on the elbows and on the protector,

think about it, don't be biased, the ishe smith fight was nearly a shut out and that fight was literally closer than canelo vs lara, also the 117-111 card, could not have been given to canelo in any way, but if it was given to lara no one would have complained that's the difference

Seems this poll and the 89 scorecards that I linked in that other thread show that this fight wasn't a robbery but a fight that could go either way.
