Canelo is far more proven at 168 than Ray was, Canelo is the best super middle in the world and is P4P one of the best fighters in the world, Leonard wasn`t ranked in the top 10 P4P ring mag ratings when he fought at 168, he was very negative beating a jaded slow version of Duran in 1990, was all over the place v Hearns in `89 when Hearns had really slowed down and weighed about 168 knocking out light heavy Lalonde, again Ray struggled, Canelo has beaten better opposition at 168, Ray didn`t beat Hearn in 1989 and his chin looked shaky, Ray admitted the punches had more effect on him at the higher weights, Canelo looked better v GGG at 160 than Ray did v Hagler, Ray ran a lot v Marvin and lost most of the middle rounds as he gassed and lay on the ropes not doing much till the end of each of those rounds. Ray`s best chance would be at 154, Canelo was very green at 154 and punches much better at the higher weights, look how he stood his ground in his rematch v GGG compared to his first bout v GGG, Ray looked sloppy v Kalule taking a lot of shots, Canelo displayed better defense at 154, Canelo has better fundamentals than Ray had, all Ray had was amazing speed, the bigger the weight the less effective he was, Ray`s best weight was welter, he`d be out of his depth at higher weights v a fighter of the calibre of Canelo, he wa just the better fighter overall, Ray is overrated.
I am not a fan of Ray Leonard as a man but anyone who knows anything knows that SRL at his best versus Canelo at his best at any weight is like Man vs Boy. SRL teaches Canelo a lesson. He will do what Floyd did to Canelo but worse because he hits harder.
154: Leonard 160: Canelo wins 168 (or higher): Canelo wins Objectively: Leonard (and I say this as he's in my top 10) was simply not a very good MW or SMW. I think what he did at WW, it lends more to the likelihood that he would've beaten the JMW version of Canelo (if he went right up to JMW, not the Terry Norris version of Leonard). Canelo with the extra size/strength, no way, he beats up Leonard.
Bad logic. First of all, it's much more difficult to land a punch Mayweather than to land a punch than Leonard. I agree that Leonard punches harder, but he also eats more of Canelo's punches. Mayweather was a very unique fighter and shouldn't be compared to offensive minded fighters. Second, Canelo is a natural and true middleweight unlike Leonard. Leonard's true weight was 147. Canelo is as slick as Leonard with bigger body. Man and boy example is trash.
Leonard was a very unique fighter as well and one of the best athletes ever. He would teach Canelo a lesson and hurt him. Leonard also had very good defence.
Leonard is a true atg and had good defense but that's not the point. Mayweather has "clearly" better defense than Leonard at any weight. No one can compete with his defense except the guys like Locche or Pep. Like I said, landing a clean punch on Mayweather is one of the most difficult things in boxing history.
I am simple saying Leonard has to much for Canelo. I am not saying Leonard has a better defence than Mayweather. I am saying he has a very good defence. Do you think Canelo can even dream of knocking out peak Leonard something more destructive punchers like Hagler, Hearns and Duran could not do? I love Canelo but I cannot envisage him having success against Sugar Ray Leonard who at his best is amongst the top 5 or top 10 greatest fighters in history.
Leonard's greatness mostly comes from 147 just like Duran's 135. 154 and above 154 are competitive with Canelo. Canelo has atg level counterpunching, defense and chin at 160-168. I don't think Leonard can defeat Canelo even at "pure boxing". Because Canelo tried to outbox Mayweather middle of the ring lol. He got schooled but tried that.
At 154 Ray messes up Canelo,,,at 168 Canelo messes up Leonard. At 160? close fight that probably goes the distance with a result that leaves everyone mad.
Diva vs Diva. At least Leonard was actually highly skilled even if he did do his fair share of cherrypicking. Leonard would make Canelo look clueless and red faced at all of those weights. Canelo's best wins at 160 are two robberies against a visibly declined 35-36 yo GGG.. How is anyone giving credit to Canelo for his wins at 168? Callum Smith - robbed Ryder, struggled against kickboxer, short camp, **** resume BJS - blown up 160lber..had looked absolutelh bang average in his last three fights.. And hadnt had a world level fight since FRICKING 2017 against Lemieux... How.. Does.. This.. Not.. Compute...the guy even said shortly after the Ryder fight that he would not accept a Canelo fight in May, that his timing is off and needs another opponent before he fights Canelo.. But let me guess its Billy's fault for Canelos cherrypicking ay Do you **** heads even think about basic obvious context? I've got a bridge I can sell all you dumbasses
