Cotto was handily beating Margarito up til the 9th. He tied him up when he needed to, pushed him back when he wanted to, and landed clean power shots nearly at will. And he was able to dance his way around the ring.

All Margarito managed to do was back Cotto up, but he couldn´t really land anything hard or clean.
Cotto pushed the man backwards from one side of the ring to another, multiple times.
In the last 30 seconds, Antonio finally landed some meaningful punches.

That fight was nowhere near to being over.


*I think everyone knew that Margarito´s eye was ****ed. And they checked up on it numerous times. They gave him all of the opportunities he needed but Cotto kept busting him up. The dude barely won a single round.

But when Canelo first got the WBC belt, he didn't really turn over his punches.
If Rhodes and Hatton can go 12, then so can Margo. After the Floyd fight is when Alvarez started putting more weight into his punches.

 

I don’t remember that. I remember the judges had Santos up by the end, but I had Margarito up and Canelo not as big as Santos, doesn’t pose nearly the same challenge and had stamina issues. It was a war while it lasted but the point is how Margarito himself looked anyway, not Santos. It’s an easy pick for me if it’s that Margarito, especially if it’s against a 21 yr Canelo.
