    1. Floyd is not a junior middle weight.
    2. Canelo is too big and skilled and is a fully fledged middle weight that boils down to light middle.

I really don't understand why so many supposed boxing experts/ learned fans would entertain this match up. I don't see the merit in these guys matching up due to the size disparity alone.

So we'd probably see a vintage and dare I say it pot-shotting Floyd moving around for 12 rounds to negate Canelo's advantages (that's assuming that Floyd still has these attributes intact). Experience tells me that this type of fight would not be appreciated and would evoke no end of disparagement and criticism of all concerned.

Both need to stick to fighting fighters their own size.

I think it's because both guys will be tested. Floyd's easily the superior fighter -- skill, speed and conditioning -- and so that size disparity closes the gap a bit; enough so that the fight will be an intriguing one. Fans/media can't be criticised for wanting to see it. It's certainly better than watching him feast on Guerrero and waiting for the likes of Alexander, Garcia and Khan to come up. That welterweight division is weak.

It's also worth mentioning that if Floyd doesn't take it, then it won't reflect well on him. Unlike a Sergio Martinez -- who Floyd has never been linked with -- Canelo has actually been in talks with him. Canelo and the critics will be given a reason to **** on him if he's seen to be backing out.

But anyway, why he should or shouldn't fight him isn't important. After he dominates Guerrero next week, I'm pretty certain Floyd will pick him. I mean, other than the weight, what did Canelo show last night that will worry him? He looked slow late on, poor stamina, not enough workrate, etc. Floyd would beat still beat him.

Maybe he should because they're the 1 & 2 in the division.

Mayweather is still too good for Alvarez, even with the weight-disadvantage, even now that he is slightly past his best. I don't think Mayweather will risk it, but he would beat Alvarez hands down.

People know floyd isent a 154 fighter and demand he go up out of his prime and his comfort zone even though he is the champion and p4p star (which never does) so he can loose...

If floyd beat canelo at 154 people would just demand he fights ward at 160.

It aient floyds fault he has cleared out his division... Plenty of big junior welters that could easily compete at 147 like matthyse or rios

If Floyd is one of the greatest boxers it shouldn't matter if 154 isn't his weight class. He's fought there twice before both times against past prime fighters. Wanna see what he does against an actual "young, hungry fighter" instead of a 154 fighter past his best days. Doesn't fight Canelo he's bitchmade as a fighter.

I would be very surprised if Mayweather fights him. Of course promotional companies, blood testing and money etc would be no problem. But I'd love to see it, providing Mayweather doesn't get hurt by Guerrero.

I wonder how much incentive there is for him to do it though with so much of his money now guaranteed? If there's significant additional upside to earn, I think he takes it after Guerrero. There are plenty of slots to fill with the likes of Alexander, Garcia and Khan over the next 30 months as he continues to slow. I can't possibly imagine a more lucrative or bigger fight than one with Alvarez emerging over the next 30 months, it's by far the single, biggest fight to be made in boxing in a revenue/marketing/hype sense. It doesn't even have to do with Canelo's level as a fighter either. This could do 2 million, and easily.

This. I honestly don't think Mayweather has that much trouble with Canelo, especially in the later rounds.
