Bulldogs hate Cinammon. This will be personal & ugly for Alvarez.

Bulldog outworks Canelo over 12, his chin is too sturdy for Canelo's counters and the Ginge is huffing and puffing by the end because of Mickey's high pace. So, that of course means SD draw.

If Canelo brings his own judges then Walker loses unless he wins one sided. Thing is Canelo is good enough and tough enough to at the least be competitive with virtually anybody. He's always going to have his little moments. Bivol who is considerably larger and faster than him beat seven shades of hell out of him to score a narrow win.

I don't know what Walker looked like in an actual fight.
But I do know what Alvarez looks like. And in my opinion it's not impressive.
Alvarez fought one fighter I'd consider actually great and damn near lost every round against him in Mayweather Jr. May Jr.s best fighting was done at Jr.lightweight not Jr.Middle the weight limit the fight took place at.
Alvarez has never been impressive to me.
So I'll lean towards the virtual unknown of Mickey Walker based on what the conditions of that era, and the fact of Walker being a pressure fighter and was tough as nails to out work a fighter that's not close to being great in my opinion, and has shown signs of fatigue in multiple fights.
Walker wins a decision in 12 or 15rds.

I agree Canelo is very difficult to beat because he has an excellent defence, iron chin, is good enough to be competitive against all but the very elite around his size and is likely to get the benefit of doubt in any close decisions.

At the risk of going off an a tangent from the thread subject, I never bought the narrative that Bivol was much bigger than him, though. Taller? Yes. Naturally bigger? Perhaps. Much heavier on fight night? I don't think so.

Canelo weighed a reported 172lbs on fight night as a 22 year old for his 154lbs fight vs Trout - https://www.boxingnews24.com/2013/0...ut-fight-mayweather-bout-out-of-the-question/ - comparing footage of Canelo from that fight with Canelo of the Bivol fight, I can't believe he was much under 180lbs, if at all.

Bivol was a reported 184lbs vs Chilemba and 181lbs vs Pascal, on fight night - https://basementgymboxing.blogspot.com/2014/01/fight-night-boxing-weights-list-of.html?m=1

My guess is Canelo was within 2-4lbs of Bivol's weight in the ring.

The Toy Bulldog tears the tainted meat out of Canelo Alvarez.

Fair comment. However Bivol's larger dimensions really come into play in terms of his height and reach. He is able to touch Canelo when Canelo can't touch him. Combine that with his super speed and style which is all about not getting tagged and Canelo was swimming upstream. If Bivol had come in to slug with ginger we would have seen a different fight.

    Agreed.

Many Canelo opponents had height and reach advantages over him, but punched with their heels glued to the canvas, failing to control the range.

Bivol spends the entirety of every round on his toes, harnessing his advantages in height and reach over Canelo by dictating the range the contest was fought at.

I'm busy going through old Walker clips to refresh my memory. In the context of this discussion, the first thing that comes to mind is that he looks rather like Canelo in build. Stocky refrigerator of a man. This might have been Canelo if he were a slugger and not a counterpuncher.

Edit: His movement reminds me of Povetkin. He's herky jerky on the outside for a while and then leaps in, covering a lot of distance quickly, to rip up the opponent up close with loaded punches.

The one thing that makes me think Mickey might be in trouble against Canelo is his iffy defence. He tends to sit down on his punches and doesn't protect his chin very diligently. That might provide the opportunity a sly operator like ginger needs to inflict real damage.

Damn Walker has a chin on him. Now watchign the Shcmeling fight and he's already taken a bunch of flush shots without too much bother.

Edit. Down he goes. I was gonna say how TF is a dude taking those from Schmeling without effect.

Edit: I'll say that Canelo has a clear skill advantage on him. Walker has the ruggedness and the physicality and the workrate. That might be enough to burst ginger's gaskets but on the other hand he has also managed to go the distance with some high paced fighters and win.
