This will be interesting and the amount of parallels between them is also rather striking: -both Mexican, obviously -both had 40'ish wins against mediocre guys -both had yet to fight an actual elite guy -both went up against an elite guy who was fading (Floyd in Canelo's case, Canelo in Munguia's case) -both power punchers who lacked defense skills and footwork -both youthful who are hungry for greatness -the fans to some degree are also interested in seeing them dethrone the current face of boxing who became hated over picking safe opponents to keep the gravy train rolling Assuming things continue to parallel, this could and might be a passing of the torch moment for Munguia just like Canelo. If Munguia wins then I'd personally welcome it as I'm ready to see a shakeup in the 168 division and Canelo needs to have some pressure on him to start fighting stronger opposition again rather than play it safe against the lower weight classes.
Canelo has some Elite Names on his resume so you can’t say he has not faced an elite guy. Plus you say that and yet also point out both HAVE faced elite guys that were fading/ I think this is way better than Charlo but still not excited for the fight.
Im talking about before Canelo fought Floyd, not afterwards. Munguia hasn’t faced any competition that’s elite to date, but if you know something I don’t let me know. Personally I’m excited for it. Canelo is back to facing people who have a chance of beating him.
I see this as someone who will make Canelo look like a supernova. A lumbering face forward fighter will get eaten alive by Canelo. Munguia ain't the type of guy Canelo looks human against. I think Munguia was always supposed to be a sacrificial lamb, originally for Golovkin which HBO deep sixed that potential fight.................then pretty much for anyone who would be at the top of the heap at the time. A "good" record for a truly elite guy to hang his hat on. Unless Canelo gets old overnight..............
Going to be a great card if rumours are true Canelo vs Munguia Boots vs Crowley Figueora vs Magdaleno
Mungia looked like a school boy happy to be there. Both just buddying up exactly like the Charlo fight. Exactly how Canelo likes it. Already lost interest. Pathetic.
