It was Saunders and Smith the overhyped Brits who got wrecked. Fights are not won by hope and wishful thinking rather skills. Even team Canelo realised they would need a proper long training camp for Plant. He is not an easy guy to fight and beat.
It's always good to see undisputed fights. Though, the big question here will be can Plant survive more than 5 rounds before getting knocked out.
Plant brings nothing that Alvarez hasn’t already dealt with and conversely, Alvarez is levels above Plant’s best opponent. I watched Sweet Hands on the come up with anticipation, but his career hasn’t been managed to prepare him for this moment. Easy work. They saved the softest for last.
Plant's level of comp has stagnated since Uzcat - where I was actually fairly surprised he won, I though Uzcat would drown him in deep waters, and although Plant faded down the stretch in that fight, he looked great in the 1st 5 rounds. But obviously Uzcat is nowhere near Canelo's level, neither is Lee, Feizenbutrz and Truax Plant's last 3 opponents. And Plant looked v poor against Truax, tho apparently he broke his hand early in that fight which may explain the lacklustre perf. I hope Plant is one of those guys that fights down/up to the level of his comp otherwise this is a fairly massive step up for him.
Too early for Plant, he has minimal chance at this point. Hasn't faced any top boxer in the division.
It's no too early at all. Plant is claiming to be champion of 168 pounds. Let him try to back up his claim.
After this is when it will get interesting. Canelo and his team want to go back to 175 and it's either going to be Bivol or Betierbiev or however his name is spelled. Likely Bivol since Betierbiev has unfinished business with Joe Smith Jr.
He will definitely put up a far tougher test tactically, strategically, physically and psychologically. We were fed crap about how Callum Smith was the best Super Middleweight in the world etc which was BS because any close scrutiny of him would have shown this was not the case at all. As for BJS while talented he did not live the life and was waiting to be exposed at the highest level.
I look forward to our conversation after the fight. I am telling you now and again that Plant’s speed of hand and feet and skills plus toughness is a problem for Canelo who I rate as P4P the number 1 right now.
If Plant has challenged himself in the past I would say he has a chance but he has not faced anyone close to the level of Big Red
