He was always gonna be slower but naturally the bigger fighter is normally stronger. Except Bud was physically stronger. When they clinched Bud dictated everything. Perhaps his wrestling background helped him inside? Canelo couldn't do normal big man weight advantage tactics because he was the weaker fighter physically. So he was forced to box with the more technical and quicker fighter. He got so frustrated at one point in the clinch I thought he was trying to throw Bud out of the ring lol That's why Madrimov did as well as he did against Bud. He was just as strong if not stronger. Canelo was almost always the slicker fighter so his strength deficiency wasn't as highlighted but Bud turning out to be stronger, slicker, more technical and faster meant he had little shot. So what physical advantages did Canelo end up having? Being bigger and more durable. But damn near any other physical attribute.... Speed, reflexes, strength, flexibility, Bud had him beat.
Nothing, not even height or reach. His chin was the only remarkable there. He's no longer explosive even.
His wrestling background definitely helped when they clinched. It's less about strength and more about technique. You could see Bud get his right arm under Canelo's left in the clinch and then lever his arm upwards, putting him off balance and taking away his base, allowing Crawford to push him back.
I don't think Canelo was weaker, but he was slower in there. Alot of people thought the added muscle would make Crawford slower but I didn't see it.
