Jim Lampley in a recent interview said that himself and everyone else he knows involved in the sport of boxing all thought Gennady won more rounds than Canelo and that a draw was off the mark so why would Canelo now be a favourite?
i don't understand your logic, most people's scores were 115-113/116-112, it's hardly an impossible feat to reverse 2/3 rounds, especially when some were close the first fight, especially against a depleting fighter. Fighters do make adjustments you know, its why some rematches go completely different than the first
I thought the opposite. I thought Canelo clearly beat Golokin the first time and think that if anything, Canelo will improve on that in the rematch while Golovkin has gotten older.
People need to learn how to score fights and not let a punchstat guided Jim Lampley sink into minds who's winning rounds. Golovkin really had a hard time trying to find the distance to land effective shots. For the most part Canelo kept him reaching, offbalance throwing arm punches the whole night. A good chunk of Golovkin's connects I would consider ineffective and that's something punchstat isn't capable of deciphering.
So just under 90% of those who scored the fight need to learn how to do it ? Furthermore, is Jim Lampley responsible for how they scored it?
Television analysts brainwash the viewing audience which is made up of mostly casuals. Even those viewers who are somewhat boxing fans, the majority of those dont even take the time to score the fight as they see it, instead relying on the commentating crew to keep tabs on who is winning the fight. Even the media, 90% of those who attend a big event fight like Canelo-Golovkin are really sports journalist (not boxing journalist) As far as Lampley, everytime he gives an opinion on a decision that may come, he always quotes punchstats before doing so. That there tells me off the bat he's relying on punchstats to backup his assertions. So yes, Jim Lampley influences the viewing audience.
Right, so the 90% that scored the fight in favour of Golovkin : a. Not actual boxing journalists, just overall sports ones (incompetent) b. Actual boxing journalists were wrong due listening to Jim Lampley for too long (incompetent) c. Fighters, trainers and other pro’s were wrong due to not being trained and seasoned judges and were also influenced by Lampley (incompetent) Am I following so far?
If canelo strikes GGG down he will become more powerful than alvarez can possibly imagine whereas Canelo will be viewed as a cheat no matter what happens. But yes, Canelo will win I agree.
For some perspective, I believe he had Floyd beating Canelo but just a couple of points in a close fight.
though I don't think Canelo won, Harold really is in love with both Kovalev and Canelo. often giving them rounds they clearly didn't win and then people that want that fighter to win wait until Harold gives his score before they put it down. That being said, canelo didn't win 7 rounds vs GGG he just didn't, you'd have to bend over backwards to give him 5 rounds. Classic 8-4 fight where the draw gets too much credit. However I think Canelo can build on what he did the first time as he did win 4 rounds. I think this fight is going 12 and I think canelo wins 5-6 rounds on most peoples cards that don't just agree with Harold because they want to believe him. Keep in mind they have other former judges or boxers doing round by rounds on alt feeds that have WAY different scores than Harold. IMHO Harold is not a very good scorer.
You’re like, in the extreme minority. Hardly any scores from ringside had Clenelo clearly winning. Maybe a few 115-113 cards. Get your eyes checked.
