Obviously, Canelo is going to target the winner of that fight, and who can blame him?

Depending on how those fighters look, (assuming they don't ruin each other), that's a potential PPV fight.

Not that I like paying for PPV, but a lot of fools on this site do. (Apparently)

So, instead of sitting around, Lara should try to eliminate Canelo's options, like Kirkland.

The problem is, Kirkland would beat the SHlT outta Lara.

I mean, he would beat the FU CK outta him.

Martinez has one more fight after Cotto on his HBO deal. So if Martinez wins, don't expect a fight between he and Canelo this year.

    What's Martinez' alternative?

    GGG?

I don't know who's better. You could definitely make an argument for Canelo.

I think it's obvious Canelo has better defense, but I think Martinez might have a better shot at beating Canelo than GGG.

Canelo might elect to box more with Martinez.

GGG is a seek and destroy type of fighter. That's not the type of guy Martinez wants to be in with at this point in his career.

I mean, honestly, Martinez looked done his last fight, so Canelo is by no means a sure thing.

In fact I think a lot of people would pick Canelo at this point, given Martinez' last performance.

But Lara is not in the picture.

Canelo would fight Kirkland before he fight Lara because Kirkland brings in the cash.

He's an exciting fighter, and could potentially put Canelo through hell.

I think Lara would get knocked out though.

Canelo or Lara won't be fighting Martinez or Kirkland this year. HBO has the rights to broadcast Martinez's next fight and GBP fighters aren't allowed on HBO. Kirkland sued to get out of his GBP contract and 50 Cent decided to start his own beef with GBP when he started his company. So I don't anticipate GBP doing business with Kirkland or 50 Cent anytime soon.

I believe Martinez claimed in an interview that he's going to deal with GGG after Cotto. So we'll see if that happens. I'm not sure who he'd fight on HBO for his last HBO-contract fight, otherwise. Chavez can't make anything below 168, so if he rematched Jr it would have to be at 168.

If Martinez wins, he will fight GGG. If Cotto wins... who knows what Cotto will do, probably Alvarez if I had to guess.

You don't think Showtime would be willing to drop Lara?

Trout vs Lara was one of the most boring fights I've ever seen.

Most people will probably avoid Lara fights when he's on HBO from now on.

They probably remember him against Angulo, where he was rolling around like he was on fire, and thought his fight against Trout would be exciting.

    It wasn't.

    He isn't.

Showtime will give him up because they don't need him.

Lara is a GBP fighter and is signed with Haymon. Showtime won't be giving up on him anytime soon. And if you think Showtime would give up on him becasue he's boring, then what makes you think HBO would want him on their network? They just banished Rigo for being too boring.

    Damn networks.

    Man...

Preventing the fights that SHOULD be made from being made.

    Fans need to DEMAND fights.

The bottom line is, Lara vs Kirkland is a great fight.

Lara would get beat down, but that would set up a Mayweather vs Kirkland fight.

Out of all the fighters fighting today, I believe Kirkland has the best chance to beat Mayweather.

You can't beat Mayweather by boxing him. So many people think Lara would stand a chance, but he would get embarrassed.

And on top of that, Lara would RUN from Mayweather like a scared little girl, despite being bigger and stronger and behind on the score cards.

He would be content with that.

Just like he is content in fighting dirty when things get tough, although, I will give him credit for not fighting dirty against Angulo.

Regardless, my point is, Mayweather vs Kirkland would be the best Mayweather vs (opponent) fight in boxing.

Kirkland is a like a pitbull, and he won't stop fighting and will not be detered. He will die in the ring to beat Mayweather. He's like Angulo, but more skilled, and a harder target to find, plus he has more power.

Now, Mayweather has done enough for the sport, (except fight Pacquaio which he owes to Pacquaio for talking all that **** about him), so I wouldn't demand him to fight Kirkland, but if the fans want to see a guy that could potentially beat Mayweather, he's the guy.

we can blame the networks, we can blame the promoters, we can blame the fighters themselves....at the end of the day NOTHING changes until the federations are scrapped and one legit federation, with no vested interest or financial incentives on the table, takes over

it may be a pipe dream, but until that pipe dream becomes a reality, it's all about a battle of egos - at the expense of the fights we want to see

I'd love for both of these fights to happen. If Kirkland can get like 3 or 4 fights in this year, he would be an excellent opponent for Floyd in 2015. That would be guarenteed fireworks, and you would see Floyd really be pushed in there(unless he caught Kirkland early and stopped him). Sadly though, network beefs and personal grudges have made so many of these fights unrealisitc. It's a shame.
