WTF was that? Seriously I've watched plenty of Canelo fights and I've never seen him fight that way. I thought Canelo was losing the fight until the KO. Canelo was not letting his hands go, you don't win rounds by picking shots off with your gloves but not punching back. Also what surprised me was Kovalev was not going to his body. It was wide open, especially since Kovalev was the much bigger man. Body shots would definitely have sapped his energy. It was a very bizarre fight to watch. That couldn't have been Canelo's gameplan right? I mean I guess he figured he had the judges in his pocket but he couldn't have counted on a KO like that. Nothing seemed to bother Kovalev until the KO shot.
Kovalev doesn't throw power shots anymore because it leaves him open too much.. especially to a counter puncher like that.. all he does now is jab pretty much..He's well aware of his own age & frailties at this point.. he's trying to be Klitschko to an extent these days but he doesn't have the right hand like Wlad did.. or at least is too wary of throwing it
