Any of those rounds could be scored for Golovkin, but ironically, even though the 10th was arguably the best of those 3 rounds for GGG, its the one least likely for people to give him. In fact, iirc, I gave it to Canelo myself after I saw the fight for the first time. Why? Because of the contrast factor. Canelo had been getting nailed in the previous 6 rounds on the trot, and this was the first round since the 3rd that he actually tried to make a fight of it and was competitive. If you saw this round as a 1 round fight, Golovkin would win. But if you saw it as the round where Canelo got himself back into the fight, and landed a couple of decent shots, suddenly it seems as though it ought to belong to him.
It was close either way. I remember thinking GGG prob took it but when i calculated my round by round scoring i had it a draw. My mate next to me had it for GGG by 2 rounds.. was suprised how well canelo handled GGGs power
Same as ward vs kovalev 1. The judges decide to give all the last 5-6 rounds to ward even the ones he got battered in
This content is protected Every jab GGG landed was answered back with a hook , uppercut or body shot counter. Those shots count for more on the judges score cards than just jabs. GGG couldn't commit to anything other than the jab since he would have been lit up worse than he already was. Evan a knackered Canelo was able to avoid his right hand. The last 3 rounds can easily be given to Canelo , as can the first 3.
Clearly a lie. Not only did Canelo's counters get picked off or miss, in the main, but there's a sequence at 1:20 where GGG lands a stream of unanswered punches. It's nearly a minute where Canelo does nothing.
Canelo was teeing off on Golovkin in the first minute of the 10th, landing heavy blows in combination, several getting through Golovkin's guard landing flush. Golovkin got in a few jabs, but nothing with remotely the kind of power and effectiveness that Canelo landed in that first minute. The one-two with 2:25 left wobbled Golovkin when he tried to counter. Look how Golovkin's legs started to go while trying to counter, wobbiling off to his left, before regaining his balance. There were gasps from the crowd seeing Golovkin stumble. Golovkin had a mini-comeback in the 2nd minute of the round, he got Canelo to the ropes and landed a few decent shots, but Canelo was firing back and pretty much going tit-for-tat. As the round went on, Canelo realized Golovkin was trying to mount a comeback and started making himself hard to hit by backpeddling, knowing that he was winning the the round with what he did in the first minute, and it worked as Golovkin had a difficult time landing anything significant. GGG's power was greatly diminished down the stretch of that round after absorbing Canelo's barrage of punches in the first minute. Both Canelo and Golovkin were fatigued, but Canelo still maintained his concentration, controlling the distance and slipping many GGG punches. GGG landed a few punches in the final minute, but they didn't have much on them due to how fatigued GGG was at that point. Canelo was fatigued too, but he still had more power and accuracy on his punches. Observe that with 36 seconds left in the 10th, how Canelo made Golovkin miss a left hook wildly by ducking under the punch. Round 10 was a dominant 1st minute by Canelo consisting of Canelo peppering GGG with a barrage of heavy shots landed in combination. Some were blocked, but those that weren't landed hard, harder than anything GGG landed on Canelo in the round by a mile. There was a mini-comeback by Golovkin in the 2nd minute, and a 3rd minute of Golovkin chasing Canelo, GGG missing wildly at times, Canelo slipping most of GGG's punches, and Canelo still getting his shots in. To give GGG the 10th, you'd have to pretty much ignore what Canelo did in the first minute, and how he slipped and made GGG miss down the stretch of the round. Canelo landed the better work in the 10th. He landed the harder shots, he put GGG off balance, he slipped punches, made GGG miss when GGG tried to make a comeback in the 2nd half of the round. It was a relatively close round but a round that's very hard to score for Golovkin. Saying it's a clear GGG round is utterly absurd. Is it arguable that GGG won it? I'm not sure honestly, I watched the round back and I don't see how you can give that round to Golovkin after the beating Golovkin took in the first minute and the skill on display with Canelo slipping punches down the stretch and still pretty much going tit-for-tat with Golovkin.
