Gennady is a world middleweight champion , so of course he wants to unify the belts at 160 limit . Which is the legal limit

Canelo knows in his heart he cannot beat Gennady, so do his team, so he insists on a C/W limit of 155 which is really NOT legal. Great excuse for a coward huh?? The WBC are aiding & abetting Canelo by letting him make a mockery of their title & not forcing him to defend the WBC title at 160. The reason is obvious the WBC are still as corrupt & crooked as a corkscrew & they don't want to see a unified champ in Gennady Golovkin.

The Mexican fans ,who are embarrassed by Canelo's obvious cowardice, speak for all REAL boxing fans when they denounce Canelo & name him
El Pollo The Chicken. I think that name sums him up perfectly.

The UNIFIED & REAL Middleweight Champion of the World today is,,,,

Gennady GGG Golovkin!!! until someone grows a set Fights him at 160 & LEGITIMATELY beats him I cannot see that happening though

It is within the middleweight range, however, a fight with a weight limit of 155lbs is not a middleweight fight. The middleweight limit is 160lbs. End of. Anything else is a catchweight. If Alvarez wants to weigh in at 155 that's entirely his prerogative. However, his opponent, whoever that may be, needs to be allowed to weigh in at up to 160. If he can't accept that then he needs to go back to 154 and stop walking around calling himself a middleweight champion.

You guys... A poster said 155 is jmw, technically, it is middleweight. Middleweight is 155-160. I'm not talking about what weight they should fight lol

Lomachenko was willing to cw Rigo and is pulling Walters card by say he can take his cut if he wins.

Kovalev signed on to the same deal GGG and his fans were crying about from Ward.
Khan for all the ducking when given the chance has jumped weight for Alvarez.

Historically you had Pavlik jump 10 lbs for a big fight vs Hopkins
Even Hopkins when he held 3/4 of the MW Titles dropped to 157 and came in at 156 vs Hoya who had actually fought at 160 before.

Golovkin has done what come up with reason why he can't fight good fighters, y'all are bashing Alvarez who has shown more b@lls than GGG in his career.

When will you Golovkin fans ask him to step up and take a risk like actual good to great fighters do?

Based off history Golovkin won't have the WBC Title this yr because he will likely side step again.

Golovkin doesn't have to come down in weight. why would he? he is the mandatory. Like he cares if he can't get Canelo at 160. It will be Canelo who looks like the coward not GGG if the fight doesn't happen. besides a few of you morons who want Canelo to not fight him for whatever reason

I think we will hear canelo announce the fight in the post fight interview after beating Khan. Honestly the fight is not a big money maker yet, they most likely have to build it up for another six months or a year.

I think this is the main factor in the fight not being made. GGG's coming out PPV fight FLOPPED. He needs more time to establish his brand. The Lara fight would have been a step in the right direction.

Incorrect. Middleweight is 160 and above. You must not come over the 160 limit at the day before weigh-in.

You can come in as many pounds lighter as you want. But Canelo is putting a cap at 155 , you're not allowed to go over 155, which means his opponents are not allowed make the MW limit.

Ok, what people are missing out is GGG can't build his brand any bigger without a big name opponent. His "status" has reached a plateau so to speak and he won't break through that ceiling without a Canelo or Mayweather or whoever. So, there's literally no point in waiting 2,3,4 years because if GGG is still fighting the low name fighters then he still won't expand his brand. He's at the point where he'll sell out in the big venues across the country and is a star among boxing fans, but he won't crossover or be a PPV attraction until he faces a big name. That's the dilemma right now.

Doesn't matter, I think the fight is happening in Sept regardless. I can't see the Mexican laying down the belt. Wayyyy too much Mexican pride in his blood for that. But maybe he'll surprise me.

The way I understand this, Mandatory just means GGG is the guy Canelo has to fight. The weight(as long as it's within the MW limits--155 to 160), the purse, the venue, etc can be negotiated.

Arguing that the cathweight is BS is understandable but some of you seem to be having a hard time grasping the weight limits for the MW div.

155 is the lowest limit, 160 is the highest limit. Anything below 155 is JrMW anything above 160 is Super MW.

    It's really not that difficult.

    I know.

That's why I said "for all practical purposes."

And If Chris Byrd had told Wlad ten years ago that he would only defend the HW title at 201, well...

    Technically, 201 is HW.
