Edison Reynoso, trainer of WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, says his fighter is not trying to invent a new weight division but he feels very comfortable at 155-pounds and has no intention of moving up any further.

Canelo captured the middleweight title on Saturday night in Las Vegas with a twelve round unanimous decision over Miguel Cotto at the Mandalay Bay.

Canelo's mandatory chalenger, under the WBC, is WBA/IBO/WBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin.

Golovkin wants the fight to take place at 160-pounds, the middleweight limit. Canelo has no intention of facing him at 160, so the WBC could potentially strip him of the tittle of the Mexican star will vocate the belt.

"We haven't spoken with Golden Boy but we are ready to fight. Canelo faced Cotto, who is great fighter. That was a good step and I don't see why we can not face GGG," - trainer told ESPN Deports.

"But from now we are not gonna move from 155-pounds. We are quite comfortable at this weight and it suits us. We are not inventing a new division, it's just part of business and everyone looks for what suits them, and whoever wants to fight with Saul will have to come down or go up."

When did GGG get the WBO belt and does Andy Lee know this?

Oh man. If some small junior middleweight decides he wants to fight Canelo at 155 I hope he doesn't get himself killed in the ring.

    Seriously?
We're not forcing any fighter to fight on 155 to face Canelo.
We're not trying to weasel our way out of a GGG fight.

To be fair it was Cotto that created the division...

It's bs. I am all in favor of GGG moving down to get that strap and a boost in notoriety (mostly because he said he could/would got to 154). But, they need just strip Canelo.

Despite what GGG said about 154 he can't move down and they know it.

    F*ck Canelo and Golden Boy.

Mw is 155-160 so in actuality Canelo is a mw and has every right to weigh in at 155. What i think is b.s. is he expects his challengers to weigh in at his weight. This needs to be stopped.

so according to Reynoso, comfortable is "when a fighter throws single shots in between lengthy periods of inactivity because he doesn't have the conditioning to fight a steady pace for 12 rounds" :think

I've no problem with Canelo defending his middleweight title at 154/155....but any challenger has the right to come in at 160. Middleweight limit is 160...so simply that what any fighter fighting for IT can come in at. If Canelo wants to come in lighter that's up to him. If he wants to insist they come in same as him they should strip him. Simple as that.

This is nonsense. Because Floyd and Pacman started this trend of catchweights now Canelo is following like a sheep and doing the samething. In that case I hope he is stripped of the belt ASAP. This is some bs.
