That’s what you’ll see a lot of. Matchroom will suddenly close more deals for better fighters as well. Canelo is the flagship boxer, known around the world as probably the face of boxing, so in essence DAZN, and by association Matchroom USA have just been legitimised overnight. It’s exciting, especially for U.S fans across the pond.

 

Yeah it's a no brainer really, that many shows for that price, as a Brit I pretty pissed off I still have to pay for Sky subscription and 19.95 for PPV now, were the ones now being ripped off. Can no longer mock yanks about paying stupid money for boxing, ****!

 

Wow, that's interesting! It means DAZN has started working with different promoters (Oscar is the second). And that means competition and better quality as a result.
It's also a signal to Eddie Hearn — his position has become a little bit shaky.

 

Probably a good thing for boxing fans that Hearn's position is shaky, he can't be complacent and needs to keep delivering the goods in the form of big fights that excite and entertain. One person having a monopoly is never good for the consumer.

 

DAZN will know that the trick with these subscriptions is mostly just getting people to sign up as, just like Netflix, once you’re in, you’re in. The fee is so small (and easy to cancel) that you simply don’t worry about it.

I’ve gone months without watching Netflix, but not once cancelled my subscription. Canelo gives them that.

Build it, and they will come.

What's even better for him is that I believe the DAZN deal doesn't include his rights in Mexico, which is currently akin to printing money. Every few fights, a new bidding war comes up for Canelo fights between the major networks down there, and everyone wants him because Canelo fights draw like the Super Bowl...only it hits twice a year.

 

True. I wouldn’t call it shaky though. Of course if he fails to deliver long term it will be. I see this as a massive lift for him signing fighters.

I’m going on the assumption that the idea of fighting on DAZN has been the reason for fighters hesitating, as the money has apparently been great. Now, overnight, it’s suddenly become the place to be. I believe it will be that big of a swing in terms of fighters mentalities.

 

Tank has been expressing his desire to join DAZN (or to break from TMT, at least) for quite some time now. I guess just the fact alone that Tevin Farmer is a champion, has signed a lucrative contract with DAZN and is active is driving Gervonta crazy.
Unfortunately for him, Mayweather will not let him go...
