I keep hearing "Canelo's power" and its getting quite ridiculous. His promotion are trying to alter a narrative that isn't reality. Boxing is getting extremely dishonest and dodgy with this blatant bs narrative.

Canelo did not have power at 154lbs and knocked out nobody. Let's not act like 140lb chinny Khan dragged up to 155-160lbs is a great knockout (or the KO of Kirkland)

At 160, Canelo landed a few fully cocked back bombs in GGGx1 and 2 and not once did GGG feet go/wobble (granted GGG has a chin, but Canelo was the first to really land fully cocked back shots that basically did nothing)

His KO against Rocky Fielding is a non example. Same goes for Yildrim who was clear paid to lose (took a greater flurry of Eubank Jr and was still throwing punches as he was going down).

He didn't do f all against Danny Jacobs who was drained (put it in perspective a larger rehydrated Jacobs got dropped handily in Rd 4 by GGG and pasted by Pirog).

Kovalev was a shameful obvious fix/sparring session.

Callum Smith was very dodgy as well... But even with a short camp, Canelo was at times landing clean uppercuts, right hands and Smith was taking them.. Yeah he might have been bloody nosed but that's what happen when you take punches to the face. He wasn't wobbly at all. The most damage done was to Callum Smith arms.

Against 160lbs BJS who hadn't had high level fight since 2017, BJS took that Canelo uppercut, and although he was clearly hurt and his eye potentially damaged (still no proof of this) he stayed on his feet and wasn't clearly wobbly.

In summary, Canelo's power doesn't fit what the promotion are trying to tell us.

Can someone explain where the idea of Canelo having power is from? I suspect its garnered attention when Canelo throws flashy hooks to opponents elbows whilst expelling as much air as possible

I always said he is not a "A" level puncher, he is very precise, fast handed fighter with "punchers mentality", he wants to hurt and KO you, but he often cant. He had opportunities to prove his power against guys with good chins like Mosley, Trout, Chavez, GGG, Jacobs and Lara but he couldnt get them out, despite landing his best shots

Power does not travel up like people think it does.

Canelo is not hitting harder now at 168lbs than he was at 160lbs or even 154lbs. He is just cutting less weight but still coming in hydrated at a similar end weight (high 170s) as he was at 154lb and 160lbs.

His skill has travelled up though and his punch variety is superior to those in higher weight categories; hence why he is a P4P champion - so he will always be able to hang with these guys.

Now; he had modified his style at 168lbs and does not fight the same way as he did at 160lbs and below.

    Less output

    More counter punching

Dragging his back leg (bad knees) half steps

    Philly shell posture of sorts

Relying on well placed puches on openings

Not fighting in the pocket or inside too much

    Explosive single or double counters

    Planting his feet

It's a conservative style that will get him some longevity.

The 160lbs Canelo was a better to watch fighter

This 168lb Canelo is more measured

At 175lbs he will be even slower and will have to rely purely on counter punching with even less output. Look how low his output was against Kovalev. Even the jab of Kovalev slowed Canelo down dramatically.

Nah I think he hits hard.

That upper cut really ****ed up Billy Joe even if he wasn't wobbled.

I'm not exactly ginger's biggest fan but I will say that he packs dynamite in his punches. Especially at 168 you can see that he's trying to put all the juice and explosiveness that he can into his shots. As a result he's not throwing as many but up to now they have had the desired effect. It's clear that he's been doing a lot of weight training to that end. It's sad that he's such a douche in other ways.

Sure, but that was a perfect combination of timing and placement (of Saunders head position)

Canelo uppercutted Saunders afew times earlier and didnt even budge him.

He is an excellent puncher but not a huge puncher.

.....and his chin will only be able to take so many flush punches as well before it cracks.

Why would they pay Yildrim to lose? He was a 50 to 1 underdog.

In guadalajara mexico i heard theres a breed of cows called the “ clenbull “, supposedly the meat has steroidal qualities which upon digestion will make your lungs stronger for oxygen processing thus will allow you to train longer and harder.

thats what i heard from my uncle that works at nintendo.

He has true pharmaceutical power in his hands. Steroids work, you get bigger, faster and stronger. That's why athletes take them.
