We all know that he gonna beat the crap out of Plant. I think he gonna stay at 168 and retire in that weight. November 2021: Defeating Plant May-June 2022: Mandatory defense for his belts. Zach Parker is good opponent for that. Late 2022 or early 2023: Benavidez fight. I think he gonna retire after that fight. I don't think he moves up to 175 or moves down to 160 again. Thoughts?
After plant I wanna see Benavidez, unfortunately I think he's gonna beat plant and move to 175. I've just got a feeling we don't see that Benavidez fight. I'd like to see Canelo stay at 168 and force guys like Charlo, Andrade, Mungia, and Bivol move to 168 to fight him there. This will give the haters Ammo though, I can picture it now.... "Canelo ducked these guys at 160/175, then FORCED them to move to 168 to fight him." I get why people don't like Canelo, but he is definitely over-hated, the fact he's faced 3 Champs in a year is somehow not good enough for these guys, yet no other fighter is taking 3 fights in a year, never mind 3 Champs in a weight class that is, let's be honest, too big for his frame.
He fought 3-4 times in a year bcs he should have cleared 168. He doesn't need that anymore. After Plant fight, he gonna be undisputed. A mandatory defense and Benavidez fight are enough for his career. He might be retired after that.
There's no way he's retiring after Plant. I want to see the first Benavidez fight at 168, but I doubt it will happen. I even want to see what @JSpizz mentioned, set up shop there and have these other guys come to him. Charlo ought to come up anyway. But DB will make most of his career at 175 so it's not as big a deal as it seems right now.
can’t say that I would blame him if he did. but he has definitely stated in numerous interviews that he fights so many times a year because he is in his prime & is able to do so & that he intendes to keep this schedule as long as his body will allow him. hope he does as I enjoy watching him compete. The only reason he will only fight 3 times this year as opposed to 4 is because Plant played hardball, negotiations stalled & pushed the fight out 2 months into November rather then mid September.
He can fight until even his 40 but there is no sensitive competition. 175 lbs adventure is dangerous and 160 lbs adventure is too easy for him. He beats Charlo sisters and Andrade at the same night but can get battered by Beterbiev. Benavidez is perfect retirement opponent for him.
