By four kings I'm referring to Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Lenoard, Marvin Hagler and Tommy Hearns. From what I know they're often considered to be the best in modern history at middleweight, though Canelo was rather special himself at middleweight. He was rather crafty, focused, iron chin, slick defense, had solid ring IQ which he seemingly gained after the Mayweather fight and took GGG in an equal match in their 2nd fight.

My question is despite how elite he was at 160, would it be enough for him to defeat the four kings and if so, by what margin?

Hagler and Hearns would beat him without a problem. Middleweight Leonard was more smarts than skill but that should be enough to beat Alvarez. The middleweight Duran who fought Hagler would beat Canelo but most middleweight versions of Duran would lose to him.

I think he’d beat Duran and has a chance of cracking Hearns’ chin. Loses to Hagler and Leonard. 168 Canelo might be able to beat Leonard though.

None, bar some worse versions of Duran perhaps.

Im taking the unpopular route that he actually has a great shot to do very well and possibly beat them all.
I think he defeats Duran, ko's Hearns, beats Leonard at 160-168 at that point.
Only one he struggles with is Hagler.
I cant see a ko in that fight and Alvarez would give Marvin a good fight. I favour Hagler to win a clear UD but he might get robbed.

Canelo might actually do better than we think because he is a lot bigger than them - they fought in the era of same day weigh ins which effectively makes this a contest between a p4p SMW and the greatest MWs who would be 154s in today's era if not lower. That's 1 - 2 divisions which is not easy to bridge against top level opposition.

That being said, Canelo is greater than he is good. His peak is not that high but he's fought a lot of big fights and created a great resume, despite the odd loss or controversial result. So in these prime vs prime matchups he won't do as well as his standing might suggest. So despite the size issue I'm still going with Hagler and co, Duran might be beatable though.

Duran and Leonard were never considered the best at 160, Duran was a lightweight and too small, Leonard was one of the most dangerous fighters in the world at 147 as was Hearns and even though Tommy carried his power up through the wights he also began to pick more losses and didn`t always look robust enough at 160, Hagler would have toyed with Canelo though.

Hearns would have beat Canelo at 154, not sure about 160.

Mugabi was bigger than Canelo is and trained down to 154, he was bigger than Hagler when they fought at 160 and more powerful than Canelo is, Canelo might be bigge than Hagler was but he didn`t have his 75 inch reach, Hearns 78" reach would allow him to out-jab Canelo unless he gets tagged.

Leonard and Hearns fought poorly at 168, Hearns actually looked better at 175 than he did at 168 v Kichen and Ray, he looked better than Canelo did v Bivol, his long jab helped him v Bivol who completely out-jabbed Saul with only a 72 inch reach, shorter than Hagler`s.

Damn, this is a good one. Sugar Ray was too versatile and smart for Canelo. Hagler in his prime was tough for anyone and I’d probably pick him over any fighter at MW, including Canelo. Duran was a wild card and would be giving up so much size to Canelo. Still, Duran was special and so cagey in the ring. If Duran wasn’t at his best, Canelo could beat him. Tommy beats Canelo if he boxes him. In a firefight, it’s a crapshoot. Tommy was long, fast and so talented but he had a mean streak and couldn’t resist a brawl too often. It occasionally led to him getting caught with a shot but I admired him for it. Disciplined Hearns beats Canelo.

These guys were bad ass and most fought past their prime. Aside from Hagler most were at their best at lighter weights. Still they were tough at MW and hard for me to pick against. Duran did way better than I thought he wouod do because he had no business north of welterweight. The man was special.
