You think he'll be a PPV star as his precious 'A side' after 7 or 8 non title fights at 155-157? Or that the best will choose to fight him over a chance at the guy with all 4 belts? Hell no.

He'll gradually lose the ability to fight whoever he wants, the favour of commissions, networks, judges (and therefore probably fights). He's good, simply not good enough to be the biggest draw in the sport.

He'll be fine, in that he won't be destitute, but he's been built for a long time as the next big star, the heir apparent. If he doesn't realise he's not there yet, he's gonna **** it up.

He's been projected as the major coming force in the sport, a new conquerer. People were fooled into thinking it was plausible, that was his appeal. Give it 2 years, not even his own mum will believe it.

True, but he also just started off his PPV career.
I guess it really does come down to his fight with Khan, who in comparsion to Angulo and Lara, is an actual name opponent.

:rofl No it doesn't. Khan fight will probably do ok. But it has no impact at all on his future.

What possible scenario could lead to Canelo gaining popularity over the next few years?

Can he beat Golovkin? Doubtful, at least he doesn't seem to think so.
Can he make 154? Again, doubtful.

He's stuck in limbo with no championship to fight for. A purgatory of his own conceit.

    Yes it does.
If Canelo vs Khan is a financial success, then why should Canelo ever take any risks? It really does come down to if Canelo, as the A-side, can generate a blockbuster event.

Canelo vs khan will not do more than 500,000 buys

He can right now. It doesn't matter. He still has residual good will because he was fed to us as the messiah. Give it a couple of years fighting for no prize at a made up division (what else can he do?) and watch interest dwindle.

He cannot and will not be the star attraction he was groomed to be.

Well he'd still be Lineal Champ which despite the catch weight is more important, also non title fight's with Lara and Angulo drew more interest than title fights vs Lemieux.

It all comes down to his well the Khan fight does, and who he fights isn't the Khan fight being talked about the most right now and wayy more than Wade.

Again Welter and Jr Middle are deeper
Fights with guys like Thurman, the Charlo's, Brook, possible Trout/Lara rematches, etc... Would all draw as much or more interest than basically every fight at MW right now.

He can take a couple of losses and he'll still be a PPV star, Oscar put too much money into ginger already, he'll be fine even when he'll be shot

My thoughts exactly. Canelo needs the pac fight. If he gets it, he will be safe once again. If not, it's nowhere but up for him, to the scary land of people his own size.
