I don't remember many cases of a challenger having a rematch clause built in. Have I just not been paying attention or is this uncommon?
It's not about belts or titles or Matchroom (all promoters do this). If you're a clearly bigger name than your opponent, then you can demand a rematch clause. Business as usual.
It’s ludicrous. Alvarez wasn’t even the mandatory challenger and overwhelmingly beaten in all aspects.
I think their ultimate goal was to make Canelo the undisputed light heavyweight champion, and make billions of dollars when he fought heavyweights such as Usyk, AJ etc. So, they don't want to miss this opportunity and have another chance at light heavyweight title shot. Because after Canelo beats Bivol, he would be just 1 fight away from being the undisputed light heavyweight champion. After that he would fight the likes of Usyk, AJ etc and make tons of money for everyone. Bivol ruined their plans. They want to try again.
Zero chance Canelo would have ever fought Joshua. They were talking about making Usyk fight at a 201 lb catchweight lol, Canelo getting in there with a 6’6 240lb guy would be suicide
