By all means feel free to criticize GGG, but it's far from the same situation as when Canelo dropped the belt: a) Canelo asked for an interim fight to acclimatize to 160. Instead he fought Khan and then dropped the belt! GGG wasn't given an interim fight - he was stripped for fighting a late replacement that the IBF didn't like. b) Golovkin was always going to lose at least one of his belts after the Canelo fight got cancelled, because both the WBC and IBF mandatories were due. c) Golovkin was the biggest money fight for Canelo when he dropped the belt. Derevyanchenko isn't even close to the biggest fight for Golovkin.
Cry me a river........ GGG is not even done getting stripped/vacating belts, WBC is next on his list....... How are you going to defend that sunshine??????
You know he wasn't stripped for fighting that late replacement, but that isn't even the point...... Why fight Vanes if you are going to get stripped and #allofthebelts is your life long mission. IBF was but he could have faced Derevyanchenko instead of losing his belt or even Billy Joe Saunders for #allofthebelts. WBC still hasn't been ordered, but it will be soon. What excuse wil you have when GGG bails on the WBC? Is this an actual fact? I am pretty sure Canelo made basically the same coin fighting JCC Jr Would have been very, very similar to that fight atleast. Why do you even care about the money, that just makes GGG look worse considering all the bs he has talked in the past about belts and money?
First I'd like to know if or don't you agree with I just wrote? Or do you think it's comparable to Canelo's WBC belt drop, like the thread suggests? Moving onto the 3rd part of this reaction, if you do think so then "How are you going to defend that sunshine??????" I know you'd hope that, but we're far from there yet, because the WBC wants to push the Canelo fight and if it doesn't happen they going to have to set a date first. There's nothing to defend... it hasn't happened yet, if it's going to happen at all. And if it does, then it's all about the circumstances in which it happens. If the Charlo A fight gets ordered, and it goes to pursebids with Golovkin dropping the belt, then yes, it's almost in the same territory as the Canelo situation and thus pretty undefendable. But there are a 100 screnarios possible, certainly with Sulaiman, Oscar, Alvarez and Haymon in the mix.
He was given a pass for fighting Vanes so you could almost class that as an interim fight. The IBF saw a window of opportunity for GGG to satisfy his mandatory obligation when the Canelo fight fell threw and instead of getting it out of the way he asked for permission to fight a bum which was granted to him as long as he fought Sergiy next which he obviously was not willing to do. He made it fairly clear he had no intention of ever fighting Sergiy by choosing to fight Vanes instead. He had ample opportunity to avoid being stripped , but the reality is he just didn't want go up against the Buzzsaw.
a) I didn't say that GGG shouldn't be criticized. I'm just pointing out that it is not the same as the Canelo situation. I didn't like the Vanes fight either, IMHO he should have cancelled and fought someone better in June/July. But Canelo asking for an interim fight, taking Khan, and then vacating is definitely worse. b) "All of the belts" is pretty much marketing hype … I think we all knew that all along. Basically every fighter including GGG cares about the money first, belts second, and most fighters hype themselves to some extent. c) We'll see about the WBC, even if GGG got stripped the WBC would put it on the line for whenever Canelo vs GGG II happens. The WBC is absolutely corrupt, the only reason for mentioning Charlo is to try to "encourage" GGG to take Canelo's offer because the WBC wants that Canelo money. d) Possibly, yeah, the numbers for the JCC Jr fight would have been close to GGG's. But not Smith or Khan.
Golovkin's worst mistake and thing you can blame him for, is that he chased the money despite all the bad stuff and corruption that comes with it, and basically came out without making that much more, fighting less, losing legacy and having to abandon his goal.
As I mentioned earlier, I have no problem with people criticizing GGG - but for some to claim it's the equivalent situation to Canelo is just plainly not the truth. Fair point about Vanes but like you say it's not really a full interim fight. It would have been very harsh to strip him right then and there.
This. I bet if he could rewind time would have told Canelo and his greasy sidekick Oscar "spatula" de la Hoya to take a flying **** at a rolling donut. Instead by chasing the money he finds himself in a very awkward situation.
Nope. Don’t even use that excuse. Wade was good enough for his shot, we all know the Technician was a true challenge
